Airwars Assessment

Last Updated: August 9, 2025

On January 19, 2025, dozens of internally displaced people were injured and a number killed when they returned to a reportedly booby trapped home, triggering an explosive allegedly rigged by the Israeli military along al-Qarman Street in Beit Hanoun, northern Gaza.

A social media post described “dozens” injured in the explosion, and another referred to multiple deaths but did not specify an exact number. The victims were described as “displaced people” or “citizens” in posts describing the incident. An image posted to social media showed a large plume of grey smoke rising above the site of the explosion.

The incident occurred the same day as the start of a ceasefire reached between Israel and Hamas.

Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the explosive to the Israeli military.
