Airwars Assessment
At midday on October 19th, 2024, an alleged Israeli airstrike struck the residential area belonging to the al-Hisi, al-Daghma, and Rayhan families in the Jabalia al-Nazla area in the northern Gaza Strip. According to multiple local reports, at least five to seven civilians were killed in the strike, with up to dozens reportedly wounded. The attack severely damaged the al-Hisi family home and nearby residential buildings.
Shehab Agency was the first to report the incident on Twitter/X at midday, followed by the reports from @Snd_pal and other news agencies. Reports from @Sa7atPlBreaking, Shehab Agency, @refugeesps, and other local outlets stated that five civilians were killed and several more injured, most of them children, as a result of the bombing. According to accounts like Rania Al Khodary and jhdbwjhd258708, the death toll may have reached up to seven, with some individuals still missing beneath the rubble. The journalist Anas al-Shariff reported on his Twitter/X account @AnasAlSharif0 that there were dozens of injured.
Among those killed was a young man, Hassan al-Hisi (Abu Muhammed), and his wife, Umm Muhammad al-Hisi. The names were confirmed through multiple social media tributes and news coverage. A Facebook post by user “Live like a fool among people”, who identified himself as a cousin, expressed grief, writing that the couple was killed as a result of the bombing of their home in al-Nazla and prayed for their mercy and forgiveness. Another user, Safwat Sadallah, called Hassan a “good neighbour and of good memory.”
Personal tributes were also posted by Mohamed Abu Warda, who described Hassan as a brother and expressed sadness.
Twitter/X user @Qadeyah1 accompanied his tribute to Hassan al-Hisi with his picture. He was a clean-shaven young man with dark short hair and large brown eyes, dressed in a black T-shirt, taking a selfie by the sea.
Twitter/X user @abualfutu1234 shared a graphic video of an infant being transported in an ambulance. The child’s body was fully covered in blood, and it was not clear whether he was killed or injured in the strike.
Airwars researchers found the names of two children, a three-year-old boy, Hassan Muhammad Hassan Al-Hisi, and an infant, Jude Muhammad Imran Al-Hissi, who may also have been killed in this incident in the records of Shireen Monitor, an organisation documenting the names of people killed in Palestine. While they were from the same family as the victims, it was not explicitly mentioned anywhere that they were killed in this strike. The location mentioned was not specific enough to allow Airwars to confidently link these names to this incident, and as such, they will not be included in the victims’ list, though this will be updated should more information emerge.
Social media accounts such as @abualfutu1234 and Muhammad Al-Attar posted images of the aftermath, where debris of the buildings after the bombardment can be seen. Shehab Agency also posted the images of the debris following the attack.
The Israeli military was consistently identified across sources as the suspected belligerent responsible for the attack.
