Airwars assessment
At least one person was killed and an unknown number were injured by an alleged Israeli airstrike and/or artillery strike on a water filling station in front of the Beit Lahia School in Beit Lahia, Northern Gaza, on November 19, 2024.
Several news outlets, including Al Arabiya Palestine and Al Jazeera Palestine confirmed the death of one civilian and an unknown number of injured in what was described as Israeli ‘bombing’ and ‘shelling’.
A photograph of the lifeless body of one man reported to have been killed in the strike was posted on X/Twitter. He is wearing a grey hoodie, stained with blood, and his eyes are looking up. The identity of the man killed was not yet found among local sources.
One post made by the Facebook page ‘Gaza’ reported that a child was also killed in the incident, but this had not been reported by any other outlets at the time of research.
In a video shared by Al Arabiya Palestine showing the aftermath, a group of men can be seen rapidly pushing a cart with at least two people laying down and one man holding what could be a makeshift IV drip. In another, shared by Al Telfezyoun Al Arabi – Falsten, it can be seen that a child is on one of these carts. While this was the same child receiving the improvised IV, it is unclear whether the child is alive. It is possible the child died of injuries sustained, supporting the previous claim that a child had also been killed in this strike. To account for this uncertainty, Airwars has recorded a child fatality and a child injury in the upper casualty ranges for this event.
The incident happened while civilians were filling water outside the front gate of the Beit Lahia School, which was serving as a shelter for displaced people in the northern Gaza Strip.
This incident has been given a civilian harm rating of ‘Fair’ and has been graded as a Likely airstrike and/or artillery attributed to the Israeli military, based on widespread reporting from media outlets and on social media.
The local time of the incident is unknown.
