Airwars assessment
Three children were injured after an alleged Israeli ordnance exploded in Rafah on 20 January, 2025; this occurred a day into the Israeli-Hamas ceasefire in early 2025. One of the wounded was identified as Waseem Abu al-Hussin.
Early sources reported two injuries, a figure that subsequent reports later increased to three. Waseem’s father, Sadi Abu Al Hussin Abu Waseem, clarified that his son had sustained “a minor injury” and “thank[ed] God for [his] safety”. He included a photograph showing Waseem receiving medical treatment at a hospital, with care being administered to his left leg.
The extent of the wounds sustained by the other two children was not made available, beyond reports that the injured had been transported to the European Hospital.
Facebook user Khalil M Talmas urged caution in light of the potential for unexploded ordnances to detonate, appealing for people to “pay close attention before returning [home]” and “check the houses for mines, explosives and falling devices”.
The local time of the incident is unknown.
