Airwars Assessment
On the morning of Sunday, May 26, 2025, a municipal worker was reportedly killed and two others injured in an alleged Israeli airstrike that struck a Gaza Municipality truck at the Ezbet al-Hamamiya intersection near the 17th Roundabout on Rashid Street, west of Gaza City.
The victim was identified as 41-year-old Mohammed Riyad Mohammed Musa, a municipal employee working in the sewage services department. The Gaza Municipality confirmed his death, stating that he was killed while performing his professional duties. Two of his colleagues were also injured in the same incident, though their names have not been publicly disclosed. According to his profile on the website Genocide in Gaza, he was performing his work in sanitation services when he was attacked without a prior notice.
Multiple reports from Shehab Agency, PalinfoAr, and @refugeesps confirmed that the municipal vehicle was bombed while on duty. Images from the scene showed the truck bearing municipal markings, heavily damaged at the Ezbet al-Hamamiya intersection.
Mohammed was visibly mourned by his community and colleagues, with several neighbourhood and municipal Facebook pages sharing tributes. A memorial post from Southern Sands District, where the strike occurred, described him as someone who died “while performing his professional and national duty in the service of our honourable people.” He was working “to solve problems in the southern Al-Rimal neighborhood,” at the time of the strike.
An image of Muhammed Riyad Musa, shared by local social media, showed him as a man with short, cropped black hair, a closely trimmed beard wearing sunglasses, a white button down shirt and black pants on the beach.
While no further details were provided regarding the precise circumstances of the strike or type of munitions used, the consistent framing across all sources – such as references to the “Zionist bombing” – strongly implicated Israeli forces as responsible for the strike.
All sources that identified a belligerent attributed the strike to Israeli forces.
