In the early morning of May 29th, two men – Ahmed Hosnai Shaheen and Nimer Attia Eli Abu Jlidan – were killed in a shooting near a Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) centre in the Muraj Axis in Khan Younis. Several others were reportedly injured.

Al Jazeera Palestine posted to Facebook at around 5:30 AM writing that two people had been killed “near the center of the Israel-backed Gaza Foundation, which is in charge of the distribution of aid in Khan Younis.”

PalinfoAR, posting to Twitter/X in the following minutes reported that one person had been killed, and several injured, near the “Israeli- and US-backed Gaza Foundation aid distribution centre near Khan Younis.”

At around the same time, a post shared by Twitter/X user @Sa7atPlBreaking reported that Nimer Attia Eli Abu Jlidan has killed “by the fire of the occupation forces near the American company’s aid center in the (Muraj) axis, southwest of Khan Younis”.

Minutes later, @Sa7atPlBreaking quoted local sources in writing that there were “two martyrs near the center of the Gaza Foundation, supported by Israel and the United States”.

About two hours later, @Sa7atPlBreaking posted again, appearing to name the second individual who was killed near the center, writing that Ahmed Hosni Shaheen was also killed near the aid distribution point in “Muraj”, south of Khan Younis.

Later in the morning, a Facebook post from user “Catch an agent” reported taht there were “8 martyrs and injured near the Gaza Foundation center supported by Israel and America to distribute aid near Khan Yunis. 1. Unknown martyr 2. Second: Nimer Attia Abu Jlidan.” While it seems that the unknown martyr may refer to Ahmed Hosnaj Shaheen, the names of the other six individuals were not available. As such, the maximum number of civilians killed in this incident has been recorded as eight, and the minimum as two.

Posting later in the day, Facebook user Mohamad Awad wrote that “Two martyrs were shot near the American company’s aid center in Rafah city: 12- Martyr: Ahmed Hosni Shaheen 13- Martyr: Nimer Attia Eid Abu Jlidan”.

Posting to Facebook, Ibrahim Shaheen mourned his cousin Ahmed, praying for him, and writing “Martyrdom of our cousin, Ahmed Hosni Shaheen. To God we belong and to Him we shall return.” Ibrahim also shared an image of Ahmed. In the photo, Ahmed looks gently toward the camera. He has dark hair and a dark mustache and beard, the color of which is a bit lighter around his chin. In the image, Ahmed wears an off-white shirt with a mandarin color.

Amal Shaheen remembered his cousin ‘Professor Ahmed Hosni Shaheen,” and prayed for Ahmed and his children, writing: “May God give you patience, my life, and may He give your children patience over his separation.”

Ahmed’s sister-in-law Imad Zaqout also posted in honor of Ahmed, and offered prayers: “We ask Allah to accept him among the martyrs and to place him in the highest ranks with the prophets and the truthful. Allah the Almighty said: “And never think that those who have been killed in the cause of Allah are dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, and they are provided for.”

Imad also shared an image of Ahmed. In the photo, wears a suit jacket over an off-white shirt, and smiles toward the camera. He has a light salt-and-pepper beard.

Qadeyah1 shared the same image of Ahmed to Twitter/X. Accompanying the image was the caption: “Ahmed Hosni Shaheen was killed in an airstrike near an aid distribution point in Muraj, south of Khan Yunis.” While most people reported that there was gunfire near the Muraj axis, and that Ahmed and Nimer were killed by gunfire, Airwars has recorded the cause of death as “Small arms and light weapons”, or gunfire. This will be updated should additional information become available.

Tariq Abu Qasim, Nimer’s nephew, posted to Facebook to announce the death of his uncle. Tariq prayed for Nimer, and also shared a photo. In the photo, Nimer wears a tan three-piece suite with a black tie and white button-down shirt.

Another post from Tariq read “you are in our hearts, Uncle Nimer.”

Another of Nimer’s nephews, Mohammad Tawfiq Al-Mahmoum shared the same image of Nimer, captioning the image with the prayer: “We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. May Allah have mercy on him and forgive you… My martyred uncle, Nimer Attia, the concerned Nimer Abu Attia.”

Another loved one of Nimer’s, Musab Adwan, posted a tribute for Nimer to Facebook, writing “We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. May Allah have mercy on him and forgive you…the martyr / Nimer Attia Al-Mahmoum.” Musab accompanied the post with an image of Nimer. In the photo, Nimer wears a grey sports coat over a white Adidas t-shirt. He also wears a black watch around right wrist and a silver and black ring on his right hand. A child seems to be videoing something behind him – suggesting that the picture was potentially taken at a children’s sporting event.

On the evening of the 29th, Alaraby TV shared an image from the humanitarian aid distribution center in the Muraj area. The image, taken just above eye-level, shows a crowd of people extending into the horizon. The land around them is relatively bare. The accompanying caption reads: “Scenes that epitomize the harsh reality.”

A video shared by Twitter/X user @PalpostN later in the day showed scenes from the Muraj Axis earlier in the day. Scenes include a cart carrying children who appear injured and overheated, a decrying the circumstances – saying that many people have been killed – and that enough is enough, and semi-aerial views showing hundreds of people walking through a largely dusty and bare landscape – some carrying white packages which appear to be aid, and others moving empty-handed.

Where possible, names have been matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH) lists, which include national ID numbers. Since October 26, 2023 the MoH has released nine lists, along with an additional list of medical professionals, which was released on September 17, 2024. Airwars is matching individuals to the first list where their name appeared. In regard to this incident, Ahmed and Nimer’s named were matched to the ninth ‘Palestinian Ministry of Health List of Fatalities in Gaza’ list, which was released on June 23, 2025. Though sources did not mention Ahmed and Nimer’s ages, the Ninth MoH list identified Ahmed as 44 years old and Nimer as 40 years old.

Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the responsibility to the Israeli military.

Geolocation indicates GHF proximity.
