Six civilians were killed and between 44 to 57 injured after a declared Israeli airstrike on Yemen’s Al-Hudaydah port on 29 September, 2024.

The Israeli Air Force posted on their Twitter/X the 30th September that “Yesterday (Sunday), dozens of IAF aircraft—including fighter jets and refueling aircraft—conducted strikes on military targets belonging to the Houthi terrorist regime in the areas of Ras Isa and Hudaydah in Yemen, including power plants and a seaport that are used by the Houthis to import oil for military purposes.”

Those killed were identified as Tareq Qaied Aqlan, Wahib Abdullah Mohammad Ghalib al-Mughlis, Munif al-Masri, Mohammed Ibrahim Junaid, Abd al-Nabi al-Masqari and Majed Ahmad Qahtan.

While X/Twitter user TvAlmasirah initially claimed 33 people had been wounded, they later reconfigured their toll, increasing the injury count to 57. This figure was repeated by Al Arabi. Both Al Hadath and Al Arabiya figured a slightly lower injury toll: “Houthis announce […] 44 wounded”. Many were assumed to be in critical condition.

Wahib, Munif and Majid were all engineers; Facebook user Ahammed, a colleague, accordingly sent his “condolences to my colleagues at Al-Hali Station and Al-Karnish Al-Hodeidah”, likely where the men were employed. He included a photograph of Wahib, a moustachioed man.

Commemorating Munif, Facebook user Abd Al Nasar included a picture of him, standing upright and wearing a blue shirt, and asked that “God have mercy on him”.

Facebook user Asaad clarified that Majed was killed “while he was performing his professional duties”. Asaad prayed that, along with “grant[ing] him a place in the highest paradise”, God also “inspire his family and relatives with patience and solace”. Included with the memorial was a photograph of Majed, superimposed on a backdrop of a rippling Yemeni flag.

Mezen remembered his father, Tareq Qaied Aslan, asking that God “have mercy on him, forgive him, and let him dwell in the spaciousness of [God’s] Paradise”. He prayed that in the advent of his own death, he be “unite[d] with him in the Gardens of Bliss”.  Facebook user Nadar specified that Tareq was a professor, and included a picture of him: a man with a moustache and striped shirt, against a blue backdrop.

TvAlmasirah reported that along with the three engineers, a port worker had been killed; this is likely to be either Mohammed or Abd al-Nabi.

A video shared by Facebook user Amer showed the funeral procession for Wahib, held on 1 October. Attendance was high: a stream of people following the body through a mountainous area.

The same day, Munif’s family held a memorial for him at the “New International Hall, Shamsan Street, behind the Meridian Hotel”.

Israeli Media, according to Facebook user Alsharq, alleged the strike “targeted Houthi oil tankers”. @ForsanAliraq claimed the strike targeted both “oil depots and a power plant”.

The strike was also reported to have killed two militants, named as Ahmad Askar Ahmar al-Sha’er and Zakria Hamad al-Shirah’i.

Multiple photographs of the blast were shared, in which significant smoke plumage is visible. China Xinhua News shared several photographs of the infrastructural damage: warped metal and extensive rubble.

Al Arabi claimed that 17 strikes occurred, “with American support”.
