The US allegedly carried out two airstrikes in north Waziristan on October 27th; the first in Spinwan, Mir Ali, described in this entry, and 12 hours later; in Deegan, Datta Khel detailed in Ob151.

In this pre-dawn strike, a US drone reportedly killed up to five “people” – most likely militants but possibly civilians, as reported by local and international media. Villagers were reported to have led the rescue operation.

Most reported that at least two but as many as five suspected Taliban members, including possibly some ‘foreigners’, were killed in the attack. AFP cited local officials who said that the target was the house of a militant named Nasimullah Khan, “where some foreigners had been staying as his guests.”

An official Pakistani record of CIA drone strikes, published by the Bureau of Investigative Journalism, said two locals were killed in this attack.

Also, one militant was reported injured.

However, it cannot be excluded that civilians were among the fatalities as multiple media reported the death of up to five “people” and as long as their status is not further detailed, they will be treated as possibly being civilians.

It was reportedly a Reaper of Predator drone that had carried out the strike.
