Up to 14 people were killed and as many as ten wounded in an alleged US strike near Mir Ali, north Waziristan, local and international media reported, among some reporting up to eight of the killed as civilians.

The missiles struck a house during the night, it was reported by a range of outlets, who put the death toll somewhere between six and 14.

According to villagers in Mir Ali, cited by The News, “the drones fired four missiles and hit two rooms and a car parked inside the mud house.”

While some sources described the dead as militants, including three to six “foreigners’, others merely described them as “people,” indicating civilians could be among the killed.

The News, in fact reported eight people were killed and that all of them may have been civilians: “The villagers claimed all the victims were local tribes people and had no affiliation with the militants. They said the injured people were rushed to a nearby hospital in Mir Ali town, where the doctors said condition of some of them was critical.”

An internal record of drone strikes, compiled by the local political administration and published by the Bureau of Investigative Journalism in January 2014, listed 14 killed in this attack: “Amongst the killed, 06 were locals while 08 were Mehsud militants.”

Between two and ten people were also reported  injured in the strike on a house and car, with the highest figure reported by BBC.

Earlier in the day locals had reportedly fired on up to a dozen drones operating in the area.

All known sources said that a US drone was behind the strike.
