An alleged US drone strike on a militant compound in Khushali Village, Mir Ail, north Waziristan, killed up to ten people, possibly including civilians, and wounded another two, local and international media reported.

The death toll spanned from at least four to as many as ten, who according to most reports were described as alleged militants, possibly all “foreigners.”

Reuters later reported one of the dead as “the son of an al Qaeda operative identified as Abu Kashif.” The Conflict Monitoring Centre in Pakistan reported ‘local commander Moulana Bashir‘ was killed in this attack.

However, civilian harm cannot be ruled out as some reports did not specify the status of those killed and wounded.

The attack caused a diplomatic incident. US Senator John Kerry was leaving Pakistan that day, following an effort to defuse tensions following the death of Osama bin Laden. In response to the strike “Pakistani army chief Kayani and President Zardari sent Kerry angry messages that he received when he touched down in Dubai,” as reported by AP.

Casualties of this strike are sometimes confused with those of Ob210.
