Initial reports said al Qaeda planner Saleh al-Somali was killed with three others (two reported as Saudis), and three people were injured (possibly nearby civilians), in an attack on a car. Up to seven drones were reportedly involved. However a record of drone strikes compiled by the administration in Pakistan’s tribal areas and published by the Bureau said three ‘locals’ were killed in the strike.

A suicide attack on a CIA base three weeks later was in part ‘revenge’ for Somali’s death, al Qaeda later claimed, although that operation was months in the planning.
