The US allegedly carried out two strikes in north Waziristan on March 17th, the first in Hamzoni (described in this entry) and the second in Mizar Madakhel (detailed in Ob79). Both strikes took place in regions administered by North Waziristan Taliban leader Hafiz Gul Bahadar.
In the early morning, three to five missiles stuck two moving cars in Hamzoni, killing between three and five militants while wounding four “others”, international and local media reported.
One notes: “The driver of the first car sped away… two missiles missed the target and the third one hit the second car.” A nearby house was also damaged or destroyed.
“Foreigners” were reportedly among the dead and all reports described the fatalities as militants.
However in January 2014 the Bureau of Investigative Journalism published a secret Pakistani record of drone strikes and casualties. It listed only three people were killed in the attack, all described as locals.
Reports mentioned that four “people” were left wounded, and as their status is not further specified they will, as of now, be registered as possible being civilians.
