An alleged US drone killed up to 13 people and wounded two as a military compound in Boya, north Waziristan, was struck, local and international media reported – with a few suggesting that the fatalities were civilians and counted two children.

Two missiles hit the compound of “local militant commander” Tariq Khan in the evening, with initial reports from local officials claiming that four or five militants had died.

However total casualties were updated by some to 13, with Associated Press citing a named villager:

“Noor Gul, a resident in the village, disputed that [claim by Pakistani intelligence officials], saying 13 civilians, including two children, were killed.”

Moreover, in January 2014 the Bureau of Investigative Journalism published a secret Pakistan government report that said 14 people were killed in the attack – all were described as locals, which could indicate civilians as well as local militants. Additionally, this document notes that one of the combatants killed was a 12 year old.

Sources said that up to three were left wounded, with several specifying that they were militants.

All known sources said the incident was the work of a US drone.
