A series of alleged US strikes killed up to ten militants and wounded as many as 22 in Toorikhel, north Waziristan, was struck by missiles around 2pm, local and international sources reported.

The strike destroyed a car and a neighbouring compound and killed between three and 10 militants. Initial reports putting a number at three did add that several other were critically injured, possibly reflecting the higher numbers of other sources.

Several sources stated that after an initial strike bystanders rushed in to help and were then targeted in a subsequent strike. Several were injured, with Xinhua putting the number as high as 22.

According to a local official, cited by Dawn: “missiles hit a car carrying militants and as soon as other people rushed into help, more missiles were fired by drones,” adding that the identity of the militants was not immediately clear.

Eye witnesses observed eight drones in the air, firing fired six missiles. Others said seven missiles were fired.

According to the Bureau of Investigative Journalism’s researcher in Waziristan, only militants were killed in the attack.

However, it remains unclear whether any civilians were among the 22 wounded.
