At least three and as many as eight people were killed and three were left wounded following an alleged US drone strike in Khushali, North Waziristan, local and international media reported, though it was not clear if there were any civilians among the casualties.
Several sources reported that the home of local Taliban leader Haleem Khan was targeted. Xinhau, who cited a local reporter, described how “the pilotless American aircraft fired three missiles on a house in Khushali Kalay town, assuming it a militants’ hideout.”
While Khan reportedly survived, reports said that between four and eight militants were killed along with several injured (most sources put the number at three).
However a secret Pakistani report, published by the Bureau of Investigative Journalism in January 2014, said three people were killed in this attack, one described as a local and two as “non-local.” The report sets the time of the strike at 10.40am.
Also, several sources noted between four and five deaths without specifying whether they were militants or civilians. Xinhau, who put the death toll at five, said it was yet to be confirmed if any civilians were killed in the strike. The same sources also noted that up to three “people” were left wounded.
Finally, all known sources said that the strike was the work of a US drone.
