Airwars Assessment
On Saturday, 29 March 2025, six alleged ISIS-Somalia (Daesh) militants were killed in the Al-Miskaad mountains southeast of Bosasso in Puntland State, Somalia, in an airstrike declared by US Africa Command (AFRICOM) forces in collaboration with the Federal Government of Somalia and Puntland authorities. No civilians were officially reported as injured or killed in the strikes.
In a press release, US AFRICOM stated that they had conducted an airstrike against “multiple ISIS-Somalia” militants in “coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia”, with the strikes occurring “southeast of Bosasso, Puntland, in northeastern Somalia.” Their initial assessment stated “multiple” militants had been killed, with reportedly “no civilians” harmed.
New America added that on April 3 2025, AFRICOM updated its assessment with six militants having been killed in the strike on 29 March.
Cirka News noted that the strikes were “in coordination with Puntland authorities” and hit militants in the al-Miskaad mountains, with officials “yet to release specific details regarding the extent of the damage or the number of militants affected” and that according to sources the strikes were “part of ongoing efforts” in the region. Radio Kismaayo reported that “the exact number of casualties remains unspecified.”
Libyan Express noted that the official statements “indicated that the militants posed a threat to US forces.” Arab News added that the Somalia foreign affairs and information ministries “did not immediately respond to requests for comments” on the strike.
Multiple other local, national and social media sources quoted the official press releases while reporting on the strikes.
Sources did not provide names or further details of those killed in the strike.
