The Puntland regional government in Somalia announced that a U.S. drone strike has killed five members of ISIS in the Bari region.
The strike was carried out by American unmanned aerial vehicles and targeted mountainous areas known for ISIS activity.
Officials from the Puntland Federal Member State indicated that the individuals killed included both Somali nationals and foreign fighters.
They also noted that the number of casualties could potentially be higher than reported, as additional injuries were sustained during the operation.
Puntland officials emphasized the significance of these drone strikes in the ongoing fight against ISIS. The U.S. airstrikes have played a crucial role in supporting ground forces, enabling operations in further-flung areas under the militants’ control.
The announcement of the drone strike comes amid increasing concerns about the presence of ISIS in Somalia. The group has been attempting to establish a stronger foothold in the region, leading to intensified military efforts from both local and international forces.
As these operations continue, Puntland Federal indicated that they remain focused on degrading the capabilities of ISIS and ensuring stability in the region. The collaboration with U.S. forces highlights the ongoing partnership in combating terrorism in the Horn of Africa.

Somalia: Fresh airstrikes kill ISIS militants in Puntland
Posted On 23-11-2025, 04:59AM
BOSASO, Somalia - With the help of the international partners, the Puntland Counter-Terrorism Forces killed at least five fleeing ISIS terrorists in Barakalash within the Cal-Miskaad mountains, authorities reported, in the latest sweeping operation within the country.
The airstrikes caught up with the militants in Baalade Valley, leaving the five militants instantly dead. The fighters were fleeing from the war zone following sustained attacks against them by security forces.
According to the Puntland Counter-Terrorism Forces, the finer details about the operation shall be shared out by the US Africa Command, which is mostly responsible for the aerial operations in the northern state of Somalia.
"A fresh airstrike has just killed at least five fleeing ISIS terrorists. The strike, which occurred in the Barakalah area of Baalade Valley in the Calmiskaad mountains, was carried out by Puntland’s U.S. partners (US AfricaCommand). Any further details will be shared later."
Earlier, security forces reported capturing one of the fleeing ISIS terrorists following activation of the GPS navigation. After thorough investigations, it was reported that he was from Morocco, adding to the growing number of foreign terrorists in Somalia.
"Our forces have apprehended the ISIS terrorist group’s head of GPS navigation systems. He was captured while attempting to flee. The individual, a Moroccan national, identified himself as Abdirihiin Ibn Borosa," read the statement.
A few days ago, an airstrike hit ISIS terrorists hiding in the Maragade well area of Balade Valley. The strike was conducted by Puntland’s U.S. partners, who continue providing air support to our forces in the ongoing counter-terrorism operation in the Cal-Miskaad mountains.
