The Ministry of Defence reaffirmed its commitment to continuing planned operations to eradicate remnants of the group and ensure the safety of the Somali people. This strike is part of a broader campaign in Middle Shabelle to secure main supply routes and protect local communities from IED threats.

Sunday, February 15, 2026 (HOL) - A press release from the Somali Ministry of Defense announced that the Somali National Army carried out planned operations in areas of the Middle Shabelle region, targeting Al-Shabaab militants. The operation, which took place in the areas of Masaajid Ali Gaduud and Daru Salaam, killed at least 15 fighters from the group, according to the official statement.  The government said that the target of the operation was militants who were planning attacks and insecurity activities on roads and in areas of the region. The press release also noted that during the operation, vehicles and weapons belonging to Al-Shabaab were destroyed.  The Ministry of Defense reiterated that operations against Al-Shabaab will continue until the threat they pose to peace and stability in the country is eliminated.
