Palestinian Territories - The Palestinian Center for Defending Journalists (PJPC) condemns in the strongest terms the Israeli killing of journalists Mohammed Mansour and Hussam Shabat in two airstrikes on the southern and northern Gaza Strip, bringing the number of Palestinian journalists killed this month to seven. According to the center's documentation, Mansour, a correspondent for Palestine Today, was killed along with his wife and daughter in an Israeli airstrike on a shelter in Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip. Shabat, a correspondent for Al Jazeera Mubasher, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on the Hamouda area, north of the Gaza Strip. The center highlights that the targeting and killing of journalists Mansour and Shabat is part of a series of horrific human rights violations committed by Israel for more than 17 months. It emphasizes that the repeated and deliberate killing and targeting of Palestinian journalists is a disgrace and constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law. It also affirms that the continued targeting of journalists with deliberate killings constitutes a new addition to a long list of Israeli war crimes in the Gaza Strip and ongoing human rights violations amidst shameful international silence. It also falls within "a series of Israeli violations against Palestinian civilians, including journalists who are supposed to enjoy protection under international law." It is worth noting that international humanitarian law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention, criminalizes the targeting of civilians, including journalists, who enjoy special protection under UN Security Council Resolution 2222 (2015), which obliges parties to the conflict to protect media workers. The Center for the Protection of Palestinian Journalists reiterates its call for the international community to "assume its legal and moral responsibilities to stop these crimes" in light of Israel's continued intensive military operations in Gaza without accountability for its violations against journalists, particularly given the killing of more than 200 journalists and the wounding and arrest of hundreds more since October 2023 without any accountability.

الأراضي الفلسطينية- يدين مركز حماية الصحفيين الفلسطينيين (PJPC) بأشد العبارات، قتل إسرائيل الصحفيين “محمد منصور” و”حسام شبات” في غارتين على جنوب وشمال قطاع غزة، ما يرفع عدد الصحفيين الفلسطينيين الذين قُتلوا خلال الشهر الجاري إلى سبعة ضحايا. ووفقًا لتوثيق المركز، لقي منصور مراسل قناة “فلسطين اليوم”، مصرعه مع زوجته وطفلته في قصف إسرائيلي على منزل إيواء في مدينة خانيونس جنوب القطاع، بينما قضى شبات مراسل قناة “الجزيرة مباشر”، في غارة إسرائيلية على منطقة حمودة شمال القطاع. يبرز المركز أن استهداف وقتل الصحفيين منصور وشبات يندرج ضمن سلسلة انتهاكات حقوق الإنسان المروعة التي ترتكبها إسرائيل منذ أكثر من 17 شهرا، وشدد على أن قتل واستهداف الصحفيين الفلسطينيين بكل هذا الإمعان المتكرر هو وصمة عار ويشكّل انتهاكًا صارخًا للقانون الدولي الإنساني. كما يؤكد أن الاستهداف المستمر للصحفيين بجرائم القتل العمد يُشكِّل إضافة جديدة لسلسلة طويلة من جرائم الحرب الإسرائيلية في قطاع غزة، وانتهاكات حقوق الإنسان المستمرة وسط صمت دولي مشين، فضلا عن كونها تندرج ضمن “سلسلة انتهاكات إسرائيلية ضد المدنيين الفلسطينيين، بما في ذلك الصحفيين الذين يُفترض أن يتمتعوا بالحماية بموجب القانون الدولي. ويُذكر بأن القانون الدولي الإنساني وخاصة اتفاقيات جنيف الرابعة، يُجرِّم استهداف المدنيين، بما فيهم الصحفيون، الذين يتمتعون بحماية خاصة بموجب القرار 2222 لمجلس الأمن الدولي (2015)، الذي يُلزم أطراف النزاع بحماية العاملين في المجال الإعلامي. ويجدد مركز حماية الصحفيين الفلسطينيين، مطالبته المجتمع الدولي بـ”تحمل مسؤولياته القانونية والأخلاقية لوقف هذه الجرائم” في ظل مواصلة إسرائيل تنفيذ عمليات عسكرية مكثفة في غزة دون محاسبة على انتهاكاتها ضد الصحفيين، لا سيما في ظل قتل أكثر من 200 صحفيا وجرح واعتقال مئات آخرين منذ أكتوبر 2023 من دون أي محاسبة.

The Government Media Office in the Gaza Strip announced that the number of Palestinian journalist martyrs has risen to 207 since the start of the Israeli aggression on the Strip on October 7, 2023. The government office said in a statement: "The number of journalist martyrs has risen to 207 since the start of the genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, following the announcement of the martyrdom of journalist Mohammed Mansour, a correspondent for Palestine Today satellite channel."

أعلن المكتب الإعلامي الحكومي بقطاع غزة ارتفاع عدد الشهداء الصحفيين الفلسطينيين إلى 207 منذ بدء العدوان الإسرائيلي على القطاع في 7 أكتوبر/تشرين الأول 2023. وقال المكتب الحكومي في بيان: "ارتفاع عدد الشهداء الصَحفيين إلى 207 صحفيين منذ بدء حرب الإبادة الجماعية على قطاع غزة، بعد الإعلان عن استشهاد الصحفي محمد منصور، مراسل قناة فلسطين اليوم الفضائية".

This assassination is inseparable from the general context adopted by the occupation since the beginning of its aggression to target the press and media.

Mourning the loss of our esteemed colleague and humanitarian martyr, Muhammad Imad Mansour (Abu Jawad). With deep and grieving hearts, the Nafas Empowerment Foundation family, with all its staff working in psychosocial support programs in Gaza and the West Bank, offers its deepest condolences for the martyrdom of our dear colleague and member of the psychosocial support team of Frontline Japan and Nafas Empowerment, Muhammad Imad Mansour. He ascended today in the Gaza Strip under the weight of the ongoing aggression that is claiming the lives of innocent people in this stricken part of our homeland. Our colleague Muhammad was one of the heroes who carried the banner of humanitarian giving, psychological support, and community resilience under the harsh and difficult circumstances from which hardly anyone in Gaza can escape. He witnessed the suffering of his people in every detail. He sacrificed himself in the service of our people, never hesitating to offer a helping hand under a stifling siege. The late Mohammed was part of this psychological and social resilience. He remained steadfast in his humanitarian stances, extending a helping hand to all who needed it, despite the daily dangers threatening his life, under the shadow of an unabated genocide that made no distinction between children, women, men, or humanitarian workers. In these difficult circumstances, Mohammed was part of the light that sought to illuminate the darkness of injustice and aggression for the sake of survival, freedom, and independence. With the loss of Mohammed, we lose pure souls who loved peace and life, who dedicated their lives to humanity amidst the killing, displacement, and destruction our people are experiencing. With their passing, we bid farewell to a pillar of hope, love, and peace at a time when the lights of life are nearly extinguished. We offer our deepest condolences to his esteemed family and to all who knew him and shared moments of sacrifice and giving with him. We ask God to have mercy on him, to inspire us all with patience for this loss, and to grant beloved Gaza peace, reassurance, security and freedom.

A day had passed since my brother Jawad's martyrdom, but due to the harshness and difficulty of the circumstances, we were unable to provide tiles befitting his holy shrine. We were forced to temporarily place a zinc slab over his grave. By God, it wasn't easy on my heart. I felt a burning pain that wouldn't subside, and I said to myself: I will make tiles for him that will emerge from the depths of the earth, befitting his status and expressing our love and loyalty to him. The next day, we opened Jawad's shrine, and by God, it was no surprise to you that I saw his face more beautiful than the day he was buried. It was as if a layer of honey had been woven over his features, light emanating from his face, and tranquility filling the space. These are the honors of the martyrs and signs of a good end. And for the record, I say: Jawad, my brother, departed during the blessed month of Ramadan, during the last ten days of Ramadan, on the night of the 23rd, a blessed odd-numbered night. He departed while fasting and praying, like a lantern illuminating the path to Jerusalem. May God have mercy on you, Jawad, and be pleased with you, and grant you a high status.

مرّ يوم على استشهاد أخي جواد، لكن وبسبب قسوة الظروف وصعوبة الأحوال، لم نتمكن من توفير بلاطات تليق بضريحه الطاهر، فاضطررنا إلى أن نضع لوح زينكو مؤقتاً فوق مرقده. والله ما كان الأمر هيّناً على قلبي، شعرت بحرقة لم تهدأ، وقلت لنفسي: سأصنع له بلاطات تخرج من صميم الأرض، تليق بمقامه، وتعبر عن حبنا ووفائنا له؛ وفي اليوم التالي، فتحنا ضريح جواد، ووالله ما ذلّ عليكم أني رأيت وجهه أجمل من يوم دفنه، كأن طبقة من العسل نُسجت على ملامحه، نور يفيض من وجهه، وطمأنينة تملأ المكان، وهذه كرامات الشهداء، وعلامات حسن الخاتمة؛ وللتاريخ أقول: جواد، أخي، رحل في شهر رمضان المبارك، في العشر الأواخر، وفي ليلة 23، ليلة وترٍ مباركة، رحل وهو صائمٌ قائم، كقنديل يضيء الطريق نحو القدس. رحمك الله يا جواد، ورضي عنك، وجعل مقامك في عليين.

The channel praised the career of the martyr Mohammed Mansour, an ambitious young man in his twenties who was distinguished by his activism and dedication to his media mission. He was always present, carrying his blood on his shoulders and taking risks in his tireless efforts to convey the voice of the Palestinian people and their cause, amid the war of extermination waged by the Israeli occupation on the Gaza Strip for more than a year and a half. Palestine Today Channel stated: "We offer our condolences to ourselves, the press corps, and the martyr's family for this loss. We hold the Israeli occupation, and the United States behind it, fully responsible for this crime." Palestine Today confirmed that the targeting was a deliberate assassination of our colleague Muhammad Mansour. It believes that this assassination is inseparable from the general context adopted by the enemy since the beginning of its aggression in targeting the press and media corps, with the number of martyred journalists so far reaching 208. Palestine Today Channel explained that this new crime against journalists, which targeted our colleague Muhammad Mansour, places before Arab and international public opinion, as well as before the frameworks and forums that regulate the work of the press and are concerned with defending them and their rights and providing them with protection, the duty to expose the occupation's practices against journalists and the deliberate assassination of them, whether among their families or while carrying out their work. It calls for the need to raise this issue on an ongoing basis with relevant international organizations and institutions to prosecute the occupation and punish it for its crimes. The channel considered the silence of the so-called international community to be a clear violation of the international community's obligations. With its institutions and governments, holding the Israeli entity above accountability encourages it to continue and persist in its crimes. In light of this, Palestine Today Channel sees the need for concerted efforts by journalistic and media institutions to push in this direction in an effort to achieve practical results to protect the journalistic corps.

نعت فضائية فلسطين اليوم إدارةً وموظفين شهيدها ومراسلها الزميل الصحافي محمد منصور الذي ارتقى اليوم في استهداف طائرات الاحتلال المباشر لشقته في خان يونس . وأثنت القناة على مسيرة الشهيد محمد منصور الشاب العشريني الطموح الذي تميز بنشاطه  وتفانيه في رسالته الإعلامية حاضرا في كل الأوقات حاملاً دمه على كتفيه متكبدا المخاطر في مسعاه الدؤوب لإيصال صوت الإنسان الفلسطيني وقضيته في ظل حرب الإبادة التي يشنها الاحتلال الإسرائيلي على قطاع غزة منذ ما يزيد على العام ونصف العام . وقالت قناة فلسطين اليوم : " نعزي أنفسنا والجسم الصحافي وعائلة الشهيد بهذا المصاب، فإنها تحمّل الاحتلال الاسرائيلي ومن خلفه الولايات المتحدة الامريكية، المسؤولية الكاملة عن هذه الجريمة. وأكدت " فلسطين اليوم " أن الاستهداف كان عملية اغتيال متعمد للزميل محمد منصور ، وهي ترى أن هذا الاغتيال لا ينفصل عن السياق العام الذي اعتمده العدو منذ بدء عدوانه في استهداف الجسم الصحافي والإعلامي بحيث بلغ عدد الشهداء الصحافيين حتى الآن مئتين ثمانية صحافيين . وأوضحت قناة فلسطين اليوم أن هذه الجريمة الجديدة بحق الصحافيين، والتي طالت الزميل محمد منصور تضع أمام الرأي العام العربي والعالمي وأمام الأطر والمنتديات التي تنظم عمل الصحافة وتعنى بالدفاع عنهم وعن حقوقهم وتوفير الحماية لهم للقيام بواجبها في فضح ممارسات الاحتلال بحق الصحافيين وتعمد اغتيالهم سواء بين عائلاتهم أو خلال ممارسة عملهم ، وتدعو إلى ضرورة إثارة هذه القضية بصورة مستديمة أمام المنظمات والمؤسسات الدولية المعنية لملاحقة الاحتلال ومعاقبته على جرائمه . ورأت القناة أن سكوت ما يسمى المجتمع الدولي بمؤسساته وحكوماته عن جرائم الكيان الإسرائيلي وإبقاءه فوق المحاسبة يشجعه على المضي في جرائمه والتمادي بها . وإزاء ذلك ترى قناة فلسطين اليوم ضرورة تضافر جهود المؤسسات الصحافية والإعلامية للدفع بهذا الاتجاه توخيا للوصول إلى نتائج عملية لحماية الجسم الصحافي .

Mohammed Mansour, a 30-year-old Palestinian journalist who worked as a reporter for the pro-Islamic Jihad, Beirut-based Palestine Today TV, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on his home in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza, on March 24, 2025. Mansour’s wife was injured in the strike. Al Jazeera’s E-Learn platform posted a video featuring Mansour on March 23, where he spoke of the hardships Palestinian journalists and the media industry faced because of the war. Mansour’s colleague, Ibrahim Ibrahim told CPJ, "Mohammed's last coverage was on the evening of Sunday, March 23, 2025, when Israeli aircraft bombed a section of the Nasser Medical Complex, west of Khan Yunis. He was covering the situation live for the channel, and then he left [for] home." Ibrahim said that Mansour was displaced from the southern city of Rafah with his family and lived in tents for displaced people until a few days before his death, when he moved to a rented apartment with his wife in southern Khan Yunis, near his workplace. Palestine Today TV mourned Mansour in a statement that held Israel and the United States responsible for his death. "The channel confirms that the targeting was a deliberate assassination of colleague Mohammed Mansour, and it believes that this assassination is inseparable from the general context that the enemy has adopted since the beginning of its aggression in targeting the press and media corps." CPJ was unable to independently confirm whether Mansour was deliberately targeted for his journalistic work. CPJ’s emailed the Israel Defense Force’s North America Media Desk to ask whether it knew that civilians and journalists were in the area it attacked, and whether Mansour was targeted for his work, but didn’t immediately receive a response.
