During the morning and afternoon of 7 December 2024, a series of artillery and airstrikes, allegedly carried out by the Syrian regime forces and/or Russian warplanes/shelling, struck Talbishe in the northern countryside of Homs, Syria. The attacks resulted in the deaths of at least dozens of civilians, including five children and two women, and injuries to dozens more.

A young man, Ibrahim Abdulda’em Qaisoun, was reported killed by posts from local sources, including Mustafa Khalad and Talbysa memorial pages, as a result of an alleged artillery shelling by regime rocket launchers. The Syrian Observatory also documented the death of a young man. Facebook user Anas abo adnan wrote about two casualties in the city.

Syria TV confirmed that the city had been hit by both Syrian regime forces and Russian aircraft, noting that the strikes hit civilian homes, hospitals, and service centres, leading to “dozens of casualties” and prompting a large wave of displacement.

Exact numbers on casualties and the extent of the damage remain contested. Halab today cited “dozens of deaths and intensive shelling by Assad and Russian forces.” Images shared by users showed large plumes of smoke rising above residential buildings in Talbiseh, with streets covered in debris.

Attribution remains unclear. Syria TV and Halab Today placed responsibility on both Syrian regime forces and Russian warplanes. Twitter/X users @althawra_khabar, @hudaMo60986, and @alaamari99 framed the strikes as targeted raids against “terrorist sites.”
