A series of alleged U.S. airstrikes on the Sar Zee bridge, the two outbound and return bridges on the Roodan–Minab road, led to the injuries of eight people and the deaths of others during the early hours of 18 July 2026.
The injured were brought to Hazrat Abolfazl Hospital in Minab. ILNA reported that the injured were visited by local officials, including special governor Mohammad Radmehr, who “sincerely express[ed]” sympathy for the wounded. Alongside the article was a picture of one of the wounded, a man, lying in a hospital bed. Two further pictures shared by IRNA showed two other people in hospital beds. IRNA reported that “all medical and administrative facilities in the city” had been mobilised to support the wounded.
The BBC, quoting Iranian news outlet Tasnim, reported that “a number of people were killed and wounded in the attack, but the exact number of casualties and the extent of damage has not yet been announced.” Included was a video of the destroyed bridge. Mehr News Agency also included imagery of the damaged Bandar Abbas-Roudan bridge. In both the video and photographs, a car is visible, having flipped on its hood in the strike. Another video, shared by “Hormozgan news, Qeshm news,” captured the same scene. The man filming can be heard saying, “They hit this for no reason. Oh God. This is the road to the Minab checkpoint, at the Minab junction, after Sarzeh. Go, go - it’s dangerous; they might strike again.” Rasanknews reported that a second vehicle was also on the bridge at the time of the strike. The source stated that the strikes began at 1:20 a.m., beginning with the bombardment on the Bandar Abbas bridge.
Mehr News, reporting eight injuries, included footage of a resident of a nearby village recalling the strikes: “At 1:10, we heard an explosion. We were in Sarzeh and close to the site, so we came quickly. We saw that the bridge had been destroyed and that two vehicles had overturned, with their occupants injured. We pulled them out and sent them to Minab Hospital.”
IRNA reported that “four points of the province's communication axes were damaged,” encompassing “the Shahid Mirzaei Tunnel on the return route, the Shor River Bridge on the Bandar Abbas-Sirjan axis, and 2 bridges on the Minab three-way axis towards Rodan.”
Where sources, identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the attacks to the U.S. military. United States Central Command (CENTCOM) declared “the seventh consecutive night of strikes against Iran on July 17 at 9:30 p.m. ET,” they did not detail specific locations, and could not be matched to specific strikes.
