France reports 51 new missions resulting in 14 new airstrikes, at Ramadi, Bayji, Sinjar and Karmah near Fallujah.

Denmark reports 11 new missions which drop 4 bombs, on buildings in Anbar and Salah-al-Din provinces

Report Date

April 14, 2015

April 14th 2015 – The Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve is providing support to Government of Iraq operations as Iraqi Security Forces continue to push back ISIL in the Anbar and Salah ad Din Provinces of Iraq.

“We are supporting Iraqi Security Forces throughout the country,” said the CJTF-OIR Commanding General Lt. Gen. James Terry. “Our support in Bayji, Ramadi and Karmah highlight our commitment towards enabling our Iraqi partners in their fight against Daesh and in helping restore security throughout Iraq.”

In the Anbar Province, the Coalition continues to provide reconnaissance, airstrikes, and Advise and Assist support as the Iraqi government’s Anbar Operations Command coordinates clearing operations in northern Ramadi.

East of Ramadi, the Iraqi government’s Baghdad Operations Command is conducting ongoing operations to clear areas north of Fallujah, ultimately aimed at expelling ISIL from the area.

CJTF-OIR enables this effort through coordinated aviation, adviser elements, and combined planning.

North of Baghdad, ISFs continue to defend the Bayji Oil Refinery. Coalition airstrikes support their efforts by destroying ISIL buildings, excavators, tactical units, vehicles and weapons. The Coalition will continue to support ISF operations in the Bayji area, until the GoI’s objectives are achieved.

ISFs operations demonstrate their increasing capacity to not only repel but defeat ISIL’s localized, harassing attacks which are designed to inflate the group’s online propaganda. These operations will continue to develop momentum for the GoI, and will further the ISFs ability to remove ISIL fighters and military capabilities from the battlefield.

Reports 61 new sorties which resulted in 10 airstrikes, which destroyed 15 objectives including “logistical materials, firing positions and a factory for manufacturing explosive devices.“

April 9, 2015 – After several months of conducting airstrikes in Iraq, the Canadian military Wednesday conducted its first strike in Syria, following their government’s decision to extend and expand their military contribution to the coalition against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIL.

“This first airstrike under the expanded mandate demonstrates our Government’s firm resolve to tackle the threat of terrorism against Canada and to promote international security and stability,” said Jason Kenney, Canada’s minister of national defence. “ISIL is a genocidal terrorist organization, and we will deny them safe haven in the region. Canada is playing an important role in degrading ISIL’s capabilities in collaboration with the US-led international coalition.”

Since October the Canadian military has had several hundred personnel assigned in the Middle East supporting operations against ISIL. As of Tuesday, they had conducted 484 fighter missions, 125 aerial refueling missions and 134 reconnaissance missions, according to the Canadian Armed Forces’ website.

The Canadian military also has several dozen personnel involved in advising and assisting Iraqi security forces.

April 9, 2015

April 8, 2015 – OTTAWA – Today, Canada’s CF-18 Hornets conducted their first airstrike in Syria since the Government’s decision to extend and expand Operation IMPACT, Canada’s military contribution to the US-led coalition against the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
Following the planning and coordination process conducted with our coalition partners, two Canadian CF-18s, using precision-guided munitions, were involved in an airstrike against an ISIL garrison near Ar Raqqah, Syria. A total of 10 coalition aircraft, including six aircraft from the US were involved in this airstrike.

Quick Facts

  • Canadian Armed Force aircrew and aircraft have safely returned to base.
  • At the request of the Government of Canada, the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) have extended their participation in the international efforts to support the security forces in the Republic of Iraq for a period of up to twelve months until March 30, 2016, and have expanded the conduct of airstrikes against ISIL capabilities to include the territories of Iraq and Syria.
  • Though this was the first airstrike in Syria since the mission expansion, it was not the first air sortie. Three previous sorties have taken place over Syria since the Government expanded the CAF’s participation in the international coalition against ISIL. Air sorties provide valuable opportunities to assess new areas of operation.
  • Within the Joint Task Force-Iraq, the Air Task Force-Iraq operates three types of aircraft. The CC-150T Polaris supports coalition air assets in the region with aerial refueling. The CP-140 Auroras conducts intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions based on identified and pre-determined areas of interest. The CF-18 Hornet conducts strikes missions using precision guided munitions. Strike missions are validated through a rigorous targeting process, are authorized by our own national chain of command, and comply with the Law of Armed Conflict.

Reports 11 new sorties, later corrected to 10, which dropped 11 bombs in Anbar and Nineveh provinces.
