Sunday 24 September – a Reaper hit a truck-bomb near Dayr az Zawr in Syria, while Tornados demolished a terrorist-held building in northern Iraq…On Sunday 24 September, a Reaper kept watch over the area north-east of Dayr az Zawr in Syria, and used a Hellfire missile to destroy a truck-bomb. Over northern Iraq, Tornados demolished a Daesh-held building in Zawiyyah with a Paveway IV.

On Sept. 23-24, Coalition military forces conducted 85 strikes consisting of 167 engagements against ISIS terrorists in Syria and Iraq.

In Syria, on Sept. 23, Coalition military forces conducted 36 strikes consisting of 50 engagements against ISIS targets.

Saturday 23 September – Tornados and Typhoons destroyed seventeen terrorist targets in northern Iraq, including ten truck-bombs…Our aircraft were particularly active on Saturday 23 September over northern Iraq. Typhoons destroyed a truck-bomb west of Hawijah, a terrorist-held building 30 miles west-north-west of Kirkuk, and a mortar team, that was firing on Iraqi forces, in the hills south-west of Zawiyyah. A second Typhoon flight successfully bombed a weapons stockpile south-east of Hawijah, then conducted a simultaneous attack on four truck-bombs blocking one of the routes of advance towards the town. Near Sudayrah, Tornados used one Paveway to destroy a pair of truck-bombs, a second Paveway to knock-out an armed truck, then a third such weapon south-east of Sharqat against a Daesh building. Another Tornado flight bombed a command post south-east of Hawijah, then used a combination of Brimstone missiles and Paveway IVs to destroy a shipping container and three truck-bombs blocking other roads into Hawijah.

On 23 Sep 17, Australian F/A-18 Hornets supported Iraqi Security Forces during operations in the vicinity of Rawah. The Australian aircraft struck three Daesh Boats with guided munitions.

On Sept. 22, Coalition military forces conducted 51 strikes consisting of 68 engagements against ISIS terrorists in Syria and Iraq.

Friday 22 September – Typhoons struck a sniper team and a Daesh-held building in Raqqa, whilst Tornados bombed a command post in northern Iraq…The Syrian Democratic Forces fighting in Raqqa also received support, with Paveway-armed Typhoons bombing a sniper team and another terrorist position there on Friday 22 September. In northern Iraq, Tornados struck a Daesh command post 15 miles west of Hawijah with two Paveway IVs.

On Sept. 21, Coalition military forces conducted 21 strikes consisting of 58 engagements against ISIS terrorists in Syria and Iraq.

•On Sept. 20, near Raqqah, Syria, 25 strikes destroyed 30 fighting positions, a logistics node, a an ISIS supply route and damaged two fighting positions, and suppressed a fighting position.

•On Sept. 20, near Huwijah, Iraq, two strikes destroyed seven ISIS command and control nodes, three communications towers, and a supply depot.

Thursday 21 September – Tornados and Typhoons attacked a terrorist command post, weapon stocks and a strongpoint in northern Iraq…The following day [Sept 21st], Typhoons employed two Paveway IVs to destroy a terrorist command post and weapons stockpile in Hawijah, while a Tornado flight demolished a Daesh strongpoint north-east of Sharqat, then dealt with a second weapons stockpile south of Qayyarah.

Iraqi Security Forces begin Hawijah offensive

Iraqi Security Forces initiated major combat operations in Hawijah during the early morning hours Sept. 21.

ISIS seized control of the city in early 2014. Hawijah became isolated from the rest of ISIS’ territory in July 2016 during the battle of Mosul, when Al-Shirqat was captured by Iraqi troops.

“The liberation of Hawijah will be yet another major achievement in the ISF’s relentless drive to liberate civilians trapped by ISIS,” said Maj. Gen. Felix Gedney, Deputy Commander for Strategy and Support.

Following rapid successes against ISIS in and around Tal Afar, Akashat, Haditha and Rayhanna, ISF began its offensive into the Middle Euphrates River Valley, which stands as one of two remaining pockets of ISIS fighters remaining in Iraq along with western Anbar province.

“The rapid, recent success of the Iraqi Security Forces points to the ISF’s momentum in the campaign to destroy ISIS in Iraq,” said Coalition spokesman Col. Ryan Dillon. “ISIS has never been capable of providing effective governance or services that benefited the people under its rule. Its defeat in Iraq further demonstrates ISIS is an organization in decline, whose leaders are no longer capable of effective military command and control.”

“Recent ISIS attacks on civilian targets signal a shift in tactics from an organization unable to contend on the battlefield. The Coalition will continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the ISF in their fight against a brutal and backward organization and its ideology,” said Dillon.

In the north, a Typhoon mission destroyed an engineering vehicle being used by the terrorists to construct fieldworks near Az Zawiyyah, while a Brimstone attack by Tornados knocked out an armoured personnel carrier south of Qayyarah. In the west, a pair of Tornados used four Paveway IVs to destroy a Daesh headquarters and a truck-bomb facility in the desert near Rutbah.

•Near Hawijah, two strikes destroyed seven VBIEDs, a bunker and a heavy machine gun.

•Near Rawah, two strikes destroyed two ISIS-held buildings, a command and control node and a vehicle.

Additionally, 38 strikes consisting of 55 engagements were conducted in Syria and Iraq on Sept. 14 that closed within the last 24 hours.

•On Sept. 14, near Dayr Az Zawr, Syria six strikes destroyed an ISIS UAS, a fighting position, an ISIS supply route and suppressed three fighting positions.

•On Sept. 14, near Raqqah, Syria, 31 strikes engaged two ISIS tactical units and destroyed 25 fighting positions, 25 vehicles, three ISIS supply routes, two logistics nodes, ISIS engineering equipment, and an IED.

•On Sept. 14, near Huwijah, Iraq, one strike destroyed 11 VBIEDs and a VBIED facility.

Friday 15 September – a Reaper supported coalition airstrikes near Dayr az Zawr, and delivered two attacks itself against extremists in the open, whilst Typhoons destroyed a Daesh-held building… On Friday 15 September, a Reaper was again very active north-east of Dayr az Zawr; it provided support to coalition airstrikes which destroyed three Daesh-held buildings, then conducted two attacks on its own account with Hellfire missiles against terrorists moving through the area. Nearby, a Typhoon flight bombed a further Daesh-held building.

On 15 Sep 17, Australian F/A-18 Hornets supported Iraqi Security Forces during operations in the vicinity of Sharqat and Sagrah. The Australian aircraft struck two Daesh fighting positions and a Daesh VBIED with guided munitions.

On Sept. 14, Coalition military forces conducted 19 strikes consisting of 30 engagements against ISIS terrorists in Syria and Iraq.

In Syria, Coalition military forces conducted 16 strikes consisting of 17 engagements against ISIS targets.

• Near Dayr Az Zawr, two strikes engaged two ISIS tactical units and destroyed two vehicles.

• Near Raqqah, 14 strikes engaged six ISIS tactical units; destroyed seven fighting positions, three vehicles, and a command and control node; and suppressed two fighting positions.

In Iraq, Coalition military forces conducted three strikes consisting of 13 engagements against ISIS targets.

• Near Hawijah, two strikes engaged an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed three ISIS headquarters, two weapons caches, two VBIEDs, two fighting positions, a command and control node, a mortar system, a heavy machine gun, and a munitions cache.

• Near Rawah, one strike destroyed a command and control node.

Additionally, nine strikes consisting of 19 engagements were conducted in Syria and Iraq on Sept. 12-13 that closed within the last 24 hours.

• On Sept. 12, near Raqqah, Syria, one strike engaged an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed a fighting position.

• On Sept. 13, near Hawijah, Iraq, two strikes engaged an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed four tunnel entrances, two VBIEDs and an ISIS-held building.

• On Sept. 13, near Raqqah, Syria, five strikes destroyed four vehicles, three fighting positions, and two logistics nodes.

• On Sept. 13, near Rawah, Iraq, one strike destroyed an ISIS front-end loader.

Thursday 14 September – Tornados destroyed four truck-bombs and a workshop some miles south of Qayyarah in northern Iraq…Tornados operated over northern Iraq on Thursday 14 September, where significant truck-bomb activity had been detected some miles south of Qayyarah. Four such truck-bombs were destroyed by our aircraft using two Brimstones and two Paveways, and a further two Paveways were used to destroy a workshop producing the booby-trapped vehicles.

SITUATION
En Irak,
Les opérations de sécurisation de la région de Tall Afar s’achèvent. Les opérations militaires au sol sont restées limitées cette semaine, les Forces de Sécurité Irakiennes (FSI) poursuivant le redéploiement dans les deux principales régions encore aux mains de Daech, Hawijah et l’Anbar.
En Syrie,
A Raqqah, la progression des Forces Démocratiques Syriennes (FDS) se poursuit de façon lente mais méthodique, face à des combattants de Daech peu nombreux mais particulièrement bien retranchés dans des quartiers qu’ils ont saturés d’IED. Dans le même temps les FDS ont lancé cette semaine, avec l’appui de la Coalition, une nouvelle offensive dans l’Est du Pays depuis Shaddadi en direction de l’Euphrate.

ACTIVITÉS DE LA FORCE
Les soldats de l’opération Chammal poursuivent leurs missions d’appui et de formation au profit des unités irakiennes engagées contre Daech.
Action du volet aérien
Cette semaine, les aéronefs de l’opération Chammal ont réalisé 37 sorties aériennes dont 26 de reconnaissance armée et d’appui au sol (CAS), 6 sorties de ravitaillement ainsi que 5 sorties de recueil de renseignement par Atlantique 2 ou patrouille de Rafale.
Ces sorties ont donné lieu à la réalisation de 6 frappes et à la destruction de 6 objectifs.
Les frappes réalisées ont majoritairement été conduites en appui des combats à Raqqah.
Le bilan global de l’activité aérienne depuis le 19 septembre 2014 s’élève à 1369 frappes, 2144 objectifs détruits et 7095 sorties.

Appui feu – TF WAGRAM
Avec la fin des opérations de sécurisation dans la région de Tal Afar, la Task Force (TF) Wagram est redéployée sur Q-West et Erbil. Depuis Q-West elle a réalisé cette semaine plusieurs tirs pour neutraliser des combattants Djihadistes menant des actions de harcèlement depuis d’Hawijah.
Les canons CAESAR ont mené 6 missions de tir (6 de neutralisation).

On Sept. 13, Coalition military forces conducted 43 strikes consisting of 45 engagements against ISIS terrorists in Syria and Iraq.

In Syria, Coalition military forces conducted 39 strikes consisting of 41 engagements against ISIS targets.

•Near Abu Kamal, one strike destroyed an ISIS headquarters.

•Near Dayr Az Zawr, nine strikes [2 or more British] engaged four ISIS tactical units and destroyed two tactical vehicles, an ISIS fuel station and a fighting position.

•Near Raqqah, 29 strikes engaged an ISIS tactical unit; destroyed 21 fighting positions, a VBIED, and an ISIS UAS; and suppressed four ISIS tactical units.

In Iraq, Coalition military forces conducted four strikes consisting of four engagements against ISIS targets.

•Near Al Qaim, one strike destroyed an ISIS staging area.

•Near Hawijah, two strikes engaged an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed two weapons caches, two heavy machine guns, two bunkers, an ISIS headquarters, a VBIED facility, and a tunnel system.

•Near Rawah, one strike destroyed an IED facility.

Additionally, eight strikes consisting of 12 engagements were conducted in Syria and Iraq on Sept. 11-12 that closed within the last 24 hours.

•On Sept. 11, near Raqqah, Syria, one strike destroyed an ISIS fighting position.

•On Sept. 12, near Hawijah, Iraq, two strikes destroyed four ISIS tunnels, an anti-air artillery system, a mortar system, a weapons cache, an IED facility, a command and control node and a staging area.

•On Sept. 12, near Raqqah, Syria, five strikes destroyed 19 ISIS vehicles; and suppressed a fighting position.

Wednesday 13 September – a Reaper twice engaged terrorists on foot, as well as a truck-bomb, whilst Tornados and Typhoons struck a Daesh building, all near Dayr az Zawr…On Wednesday 13 September, another Reaper continued patrolling near Dayr az Zawr. It used two Hellfire missiles to attack terrorists spotted on foot, then employed a third missile to destroy an armoured truck-bomb positioned next to a main road. A mixed Tornado and Typhoon pair meanwhile targeted a group of Daesh in a building nearby, scoring a direct hit with a Brimstone.
