Mehdi Rahmani was born on July 10, 1988, into a family of five; three sisters, one brother, and he, the youngest child in the house. He had a large age gap with his older sister; so much so that his sister always said that she was more like a mother to him. The image that remains in the family’s minds from Mehdi’s childhood years has one thing in common: a smile that was almost always on his face.
He entered the field of protection and worked in this field for years. For a while, he was the bodyguard of Mohammad Mokhbar, and later he was assigned a new mission: protecting the Amir, Major General Seyyed Abdolrahim Mousavi. His family, however, knew less about the details of his work. They only knew that his job was sensitive and that he sometimes had important missions.
Despite all these responsibilities, he was the same kind and calm man at home. Thirteen years had passed since he was married and he had a son named "Mohammad Sobhan"
Saturday morning, March 29, the clocks were ticking between nine and ten in the morning, and a high-level meeting was being held in a building near the Leader’s Residence; a meeting attended by senior officials of the country. The atmosphere in the building seemed calm. In such meetings, there are always people whose names do not appear in the reports; those whose mission is to protect and be invisible. “Mehdi Rahmani” was one of those people. A few steps away from Amir, Major General Mousavi, stood.
But that calm was suddenly shattered by a terrible sound. Missiles that were later said to have been bunker-busting hit the building, and in a few seconds everything changed; smoke, explosion pressure, and debris. At that moment, Mehdi Rahmani was martyred while standing in his protective position.

مهدی رحمانی بیستم تیرماه ۱۳۶۷ در خانواده‌ای پنج‌فرزندی به دنیا آمد؛ سه خواهر، یک برادر و او که کوچک‌ترین فرزند خانه بود. فاصله سنی زیادی با خواهر بزرگ‌ترش داشت؛ آن‌قدر که خواهرش همیشه می‌گفت بیشتر شبیه مادری برای او بوده است. تصویری که از سال‌های کودکی مهدی در ذهن خانواده مانده، یک چیز مشترک دارد: لبخندی که تقریباً همیشه روی صورتش بود.
وارد حوزه حفاظت شد و سال‌ها در همین مسیر فعالیت کرد. مدتی محافظ محمد مخبر بود و بعد‌ها مأموریت تازه‌ای به او سپرده شد؛ حفاظت از امیر سرلشکر سیدعبدالرحیم موسوی. خانواده‌اش، اما کمتر از جزئیات کار او خبر داشتند. تنها می‌دانستند شغلش حساس است و گاهی مأموریت‌های مهمی دارد.
با همه این مسئولیت‌ها، در خانه همان مرد مهربان و آرام بود. سیزده سال از ازدواجش می‌گذشت و یک پسر به نام «محمد سبحان» داشت
صبح شنبه، نهم اسفند ماه عقربه‌های ساعت در میان ساعت نه و ده صبح در حال حرکت بودند و در ساختمانی در نزدیکی بیت رهبری جلسه‌ای در سطح عالی در حال برگزاری بود؛ نشستی با حضور مسئولان ارشد کشور. فضای ساختمان آرام به نظر می‌رسید. در چنین جلساتی همیشه افرادی هستند که نامشان در گزارش‌ها نمی‌آید؛ کسانی که مأموریتشان حفاظت و دیده نشدن است. «مهدی رحمانی» یکی از همان آدم‌ها بود. چند قدم آن‌طرف‌تر از امیر سرلشکر موسوی ایستاده بود. 
اما آن آرامش ناگهان با صدایی مهیب شکسته شد. موشک‌هایی که بعد‌ها گفته شد از نوع سنگرشکن بوده‌اند به ساختمان اصابت کردند و در چند ثانیه همه‌چیز تغییر کرد؛ دود، فشار انفجار و آوار. در همان لحظه‌ها، مهدی رحمانی در حالی که در جایگاه محافظتی خود ایستاده بود، به شهادت رسید.
