More details are emerging about the airstrikes carried out by the US AFRICOM in the past few hours in areas under the city of Kismayo in the Lower Juba region.
A statement from the US military command said that the operation targeted members of the AS, and that it took place in an area 55 KM from the city of Kismayo.
“The airstrike took place approximately 55 km northeast of the city of Kismayo, targeting Al-Shabaab forces that pose a threat to Somalia and the region as a whole,” the AFRICOM statement said.
In addition, the AFRICOM command said that they will continue operations against the AS, in order to strengthen security in Somalia and the Horn of Africa region.
