Palestinian Territories – The Palestinian Center for Defending Journalists (PJPC) condemns the killing of journalist Ahmed Abu Aisha, as a result of an Israeli airstrike targeting the Al-Sawarah area west of the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip. This is the latest in a series of deadly attacks on journalists during the ongoing war.

The center explained in a press release on Thursday that Abu Aisha, an editor with the Palestine Today news agency, was killed while covering the Israeli attacks. It noted that he had been documenting the "genocidal massacres" against civilians in Gaza for more than 21 months.

His death brings the number of journalists killed this July to four, following the deaths of Mahmoud Abu Darbi, Mahmoud Zaqout, and Mohammed Al-Sultan.

The center described what is happening as an "organized killing" of media professionals, calling on the United Nations and the international community to take immediate action to stop the targeting of journalists and prevent the use of military force to obstruct their professional work.

He pointed out that "the repeated targeting of journalists is a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, which stipulate the protection of civilians, including journalists, during armed conflicts." The Center renewed its call to the International Federation of Journalists, the Arab Journalists Union, and all international press organizations to condemn the systematic crimes against journalists in Gaza, stressing that "these attacks amount to war crimes that require legal accountability before competent international courts."

الأراضي الفلسطينية – يدين مركز حماية الصحفيين الفلسطينيين (PJPC) جريمة قتل الصحفي أحمد أبو عيشة، جراء غارة جوية إسرائيلية استهدفت منطقة السوارحة غرب مخيم النصيرات وسط قطاع غزة، في أحدث اعتداء ضمن سلسلة الهجمات المميتة على الصحفيين خلال الحرب المستمرة.

وأوضح المركز، في بيان صحفي اليوم الخميس، أن أبو عيشة، المحرر في وكالة “فلسطين اليوم”، قُتل أثناء تغطيته للهجمات الإسرائيلية، مشيرًا إلى أنه كان يوثق “مجازر حرب الإبادة” ضد المدنيين في غزة منذ أكثر من 21 شهرًا.

وبوفاته، يرتفع عدد الصحفيين الذين قُتلوا خلال شهر يوليو/تموز الجاري إلى أربعة، بعد مقتل كل من محمود أبو ضربي، ومحمود زقوت، ومحمد السلطان.

ووصف المركز ما يحدث بـ”المقتلة المنظمة” بحق الإعلاميين، مطالبًا الأمم المتحدة والمجتمع الدولي بالتحرك الفوري لوقف استهداف الصحفيين، ومنع استخدام القوة العسكرية في عرقلة عملهم المهني.

وأشار إلى أن “الاستهداف المتكرر للصحفيين يُعد انتهاكًا صارخًا للقانون الدولي الإنساني واتفاقيات جنيف التي تنص على حماية المدنيين، بمن فيهم الصحفيون، أثناء النزاعات المسلحة”.

وجدّد المركز دعوته إلى الاتحاد الدولي للصحفيين، واتحاد الصحفيين العرب، وكافة المؤسسات الصحفية الدولية، لإدانة الجرائم الممنهجة بحق الصحفيين في غزة، مؤكدًا أن “هذه الهجمات ترقى إلى جرائم حرب تستوجب المساءلة القانونية أمام المحاكم الدولية المختصة”.
