"Whoever makes the mosque their starting point will reach their desired destination with lightning speed." With these words, we can summarize the lives of our pure martyrs who offered themselves and their souls willingly for the sake of God. Their stories are written in the annals of glory and pride. These are the true stories of those chosen by the Lord of the heavens and the earth. They forsook the fleeting pleasures and transient adornments of this world, bearing upon their shoulders the great responsibility of jihad and defending the sanctuary of the noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and protecting the honor of our people and our homeland. They took up their weapons, developed their missiles, and toiled day and night in the fields of preparation and readiness, racing towards gardens beneath which rivers flow, their hearts crying out: "And we hastened to You, our Lord, that You might be pleased."
Birth of a Knight
Our martyr, the mujahid Walid Zuhair Abu Shab, was born on January 25, 1998, in the town of Al-Zanna, east of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip. He was raised in a devout and conservative Palestinian family, who instilled in him a love for Palestine and a love for jihad and resistance. He was nurtured on dignity and pride and grew up with a spirit of sacrifice and devotion.
Our martyr, the mujahid Walid, received his primary and secondary education in the schools of Bani Suheila, east of Khan Younis, where he was an exemplary, diligent, and hardworking student. He continued his university studies, earning an associate's degree in accounting from the University College of Science and Technology. He then studied engineering at the same college and graduated with distinction.
His Character and Qualities
"His face was cheerful and always smiling; he was kind, dutiful, generous, pure of heart, gentle in manners, and dedicated to his work..." With these words, the mother of the martyr Abu Shab described her son, who was martyred during the Battle of the Sword of Jerusalem.
The grieving mother told Al-Saraya website, "My son Walid possessed all the finest qualities. He was a regular at the mosque, always mindful of God, concerned for his brothers, and helpful to both young and old."
With tears of pride and honor, she added, "My son Walid's martyrdom honors me and makes me proud. I am content with him, and we are all ready to sacrifice ourselves for Al-Aqsa and for Jerusalem."
His Attachment to Mosques
Our martyr, the mujahid Walid Abu Shab, was a constant presence in the houses of God, always praying in the front rows. The prayer niches of the mosques, the Quran memorization circles, and the gatherings for reciting the Holy Quran knew him well. His tongue was always moist with remembrance of God, seeking forgiveness and supplication, and he taught the young boys and students the Book of God.
The Amr ibn al-Aas Mosque, with its regular attendees and young students, stands as the best witness to his noble character and fragrant life. How could it be otherwise? He was raised from a young age in obedience to God, and his heart was deeply attached to the mosques and to praying in the front rows.
His Path of Jihad
Our martyr, the mujahid Walid Abu Shab, grew up in an environment that embraced jihad and resistance. He developed a deep love for jihad and martyrdom, vowing to resist this usurping occupier of the land, the violator of honor, and the desecrator of holy sites until his last breath. He joined the ranks of the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine from a young age, actively participating in all its activities and events. He then persistently requested his brothers in the leadership of the Al-Quds Brigades to allow him to join the ranks of the mujahideen. He underwent several military training courses that qualified him to be a valiant mujahid in the artillery unit of the Khan Younis Brigade.
Our martyr, Abu Shab, was committed to obedience to his superiors and dedicated his entire life to the cause of God Almighty. He was a fearless lion among the valiant lions of the Brigades, spending his days preparing and training, and his nights in prayer, supplication, and reciting the Quran. The Last Meeting
The mother of the martyr, the mujahid Walid Abu Shab, recounts the details of her last meeting with her martyred son, describing it as "the most beautiful memory of my life."
She continues, saying, "On the second day of Eid, I entered my son Walid's room twice to check on him, even though I wasn't used to doing so twice. I found him reading the Holy Quran. He smiled at me and said, 'Mother, my wish to you is that if I am unable to complete the entire Quran and God chooses me as a martyr, I ask you to continue reading it from where I left off, because its reward will reach me after my death.'"
He longed for martyrdom and attained it.
The patient mother continues her conversation with Al-Saraya website: "What distinguished Walid was his unwavering belief in God's victory. That's why he always recited the jihadist anthem, 'On the mountains, behind the hills, and in the valleys, you will be defeated... you will be defeated.'"
Regarding the initial moments of his martyrdom, she adds, "I received the news of my son Walid's martyrdom with mixed feelings of sadness and joy, but the joy was greater because he longed for martyrdom and reaped the rewards of his sacrifice."
She continues, tears streaming down her face, "We can only say what our noble Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him – said: 'The eye sheds tears, and the heart grieves, and we are indeed saddened by your departure, Walid, but we will be patient and seek reward from God.'"
With defiance and steadfastness, she affirms, "The martyr Walid lives on, he has not died. Our martyrs are the crown on our heads and the apple of our eyes. I say to the Zionists and their vile collaborators that we will not deviate from this path, and we will continue to offer more and more until our land and our holy city are liberated. If one mujahid is martyred, a thousand more will rise to take his place."
The Departure of the Knight
Our martyr, the mujahid Walid Zuhair Abu Shab, whom God guided to utter the two testimonies of faith, ascended to the heights of glory and eternity as a martyr, facing the enemy without turning back, in a treacherous bombing by Zionist warplanes on the second day of Eid al-Fitr, May 14, 2021, after completing his mission of bombing Zionist settlements. May his Eid be in the highest Paradise with the prophets, the righteous, and the martyrs, and may his pure blood water the pure soil of our homeland, and may he join the path of his sincere brothers, and may his pure soul embrace their souls.
