Palestinian child Mohammed Hijazi has been missing since his eyes were ripped out by an Israeli army remnant. He picked it up spontaneously in front of his half-destroyed home in the northern Gaza Strip in early March. In the alleys of Jabalia camp, Khaled Hijazi, Mohammed's father, struggles to overcome the effects of the tragedy. The explosion completely lost his right eye, and his left eye is threatened with a similar fate unless he is transferred for urgent treatment outside the Strip.

** When the Disaster Strikes

Hijazi, 7, lives with his family in tragic circumstances. His father tries as much as he can to contain his pain and provide some reassurance, but the impact of the disaster is still present in every detail of their day.

In the Gaza Strip, a country experiencing genocide, unexploded ordnance and unexploded ordnance continue to pose a grave threat to the lives of Palestinians, threatening to claim more lives and cause permanent disabilities, amid a lack of equipment or capabilities to deal with them.

Regarding the details of the incident last March, Muhammad was playing with his friends in front of his house when he came across a strange object on the ground.

Out of curiosity, he grabbed it and it exploded in his hands. He immediately lost his entire right eye, while his left eye is suffering from serious complications that could lead to its loss as well.

In a voice filled with pain, the boy told Anadolu Agency, "I was playing with the other children. I played with something and a bomb exploded in my face." He explained that after his injury, he realized his father had heard the explosion and rushed him to the hospital.

وسط أزقة مخيم جباليا يكافح خالد حجازي، أب الطفل محمد لتجاوز آثار الفاجعة، بعدما أدى الانفجار إلى فقدان طفله عينه اليمنى بالكامل، وتهديد عينه اليسرى بمصير مشابه ما لم يتم نقله للعلاج العاجل خارج القطاع.

** حين وقعت الكارثة

يعيش حجازي (7 أعوام) مع عائلته في ظروف مأساوية، ويحاول والده قدر المستطاع احتواء آلامه وتوفير بعض الطمأنينة له، إلا أن وقع الكارثة ما زال حاضرا في كل تفاصيل يومهم.

وفي قطاع غزة الذي يشهد إبادة جماعية، لا تزال المخلفات الحربية والقذائف غير المنفجرة تشكل خطرا داهما على حياة الفلسطينيين، وتهدد بحصاد مزيد من الأرواح وإحداث إعاقات دائمة، وسط غياب أي معدات أو إمكانات للتعامل معها.

وعن تفاصيل الحادثة في مارس الماضي، كان محمد يلعب مع أصدقائه أمام المنزل حين صادف جسما غريبا على الأرض.

بدافع الفضول، أمسك به فانفجر بين يديه، ليفقد على الفور عينه اليمنى بالكامل، فيما تعاني عينه اليسرى من مضاعفات خطيرة قد تؤدي لفقدانها أيضا.

وبصوت يملؤه الألم، يقول الطفل للأناضول: "كنت ألعب مع الأطفال، لعبت بشيء فانفجرت بوجهي قنبلة"، موضحا أنه بعد إصابته أدرك أن والده سمع صوت الانفجار وأسرع لنقله إلى المستشفى.
