Palestinian child Mohammed Hijazi was playing with his friends in front of his home in Jabalia camp last March when he came across a strange object on the ground. Curious, he picked it up, and it exploded in his hands. He immediately lost his entire right eye. His left eye is suffering from serious complications that could lead to the loss of that eye as well unless he is transferred for urgent treatment outside the Gaza Strip.

The 7-year-old boy and his family live in tragic circumstances. His father, Khaled Hijazi, tries as much as he can to contain his pain and provide him with some reassurance, but the impact of the disaster is still present in every detail of their day.

The child is no longer able to play or study, and he struggles to interact with those around him due to his blindness and the psychological trauma he suffers.

كان الطفل الفلسطيني محمد حجازي يلعب مع أصدقائه أمام منزله في مخيم جباليا في مارس/ آذار الماضي، حين صادف جسمًا غريبًا على الأرض، فأمسكه بدافع الفضول، لينفجر بين يديه، ويفقد على الفور عينه اليمنى بالكامل، فيما تُعاني عينه اليسرى من مضاعفات خطيرة قد تُؤدي لفقدانها أيضًا، ما لم يتمّ نقله للعلاج العاجل خارج قطاع غزة.

يعيش الطفل البالغ من العمر 7 أعوام، مع عائلته في ظروف مأساوية، ويُحاول والده خالد حجازي قدر المستطاع احتواء آلامه وتوفير بعض الطمأنينة له، إلا أنّ وقع الكارثة ما زال حاضرًا في كل تفاصيل يومهم.

ولم يعد الطفل قادرًا على اللعب أو الدراسة، بينما يُواجه صعوبة في التفاعل مع من حوله بسبب فقدانه البصر والصدمات النفسية التي يُعاني منها.
