The statement, citing military sources, reported that a US drone strike two days prior killed a senior al-Qaeda field commander named Salem Qassem al-Marqashi, along with two other members of the organization, identified as Mohammed al-Walidi and Ahmed Labtar.

According to the statement, al-Marqashi was one of al-Qaeda's most prominent field commanders and was responsible for numerous terrorist attacks targeting security and military forces in Abyan.

ويعد المرقشي أحد أبرز القادة الميدانيين في تنظيم "القاعدة" ومسؤولا عن العديد من الهجمات الإرهابية التي استهدفت القوات الأمنية والعسكرية في أبين، طبقا للبيان.
