The dreams of student Ahmed Saadi (17 years old) turned into a harsh nightmare after he was shot in the head by an Israeli sniper while heading towards the "Gaza Humanitarian Foundation" south of Wadi Gaza, searching for flour and food for his family, who were exhausted by the siege and hunger.

Suad Abdel Qader, Ahmed's mother, said that her son was in his final year of high school – science track – and loved sports and karate. He dreamed of becoming an IT engineer, but today he lies in a bed at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, weakened by malnutrition to the point of being skin and bones.

The Journey of Pain
The mother, who is battling cancer, added in her interview with Al Jazeera Mubasher: “Ahmed was my only son and my support after his father’s passing. He was ambitious, cheerful, athletic, and well-liked. He was incredibly intelligent. One day, when the famine intensified, he told me, ‘Mom, I want to go out and get you some flour.’ I tried to stop him, telling him to continue his studies, but he would reply, ‘Your wish is my mother’s.’ He went and never returned the same.”

She explained that her son went to the Netzarim area (in the central Gaza Strip) in search of food, where he was fatally shot in the head. He was then taken to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital. She continued, “They called me and told me Ahmed was injured. They operated on him and removed a bone from his head and placed it in his abdomen. After two weeks, they said it had become infected and decayed, and his condition worsens every day.”

Between Illness and Hunger

Ahmed’s mother pointed out that, in addition to his serious injury, he is suffering from severe malnutrition, having lost more than 50 kilograms. His appearance no longer resembles that of a young man. He now needs special care, including medication and basic necessities like diapers, and most importantly, the opportunity for treatment abroad after the collapse of the healthcare system in Gaza.

A grieving mother's plea

His mother appealed to the world and humanity, saying, “I implore every human being to look at my son, who is now struggling between life and death. There is nothing in Gaza that can restore his health… I beg him to travel outside the Strip to receive the necessary treatment. My son dreamed of becoming an engineer, and now his only dream is to live.”

Since the start of the war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, 38 hospitals, 96 healthcare centers, and 197 ambulances have been put out of service due to the Israeli occupation army's deliberate targeting of the health sector, according to data from the Government Media Office in Gaza.

This comes in addition to the Israeli siege on the Strip since March 2, which prevents the entry of medical and food aid, further exacerbating the collapse of the health system and the suffering of the sick and wounded.

تحولت أحلام الطالب أحمد سعدي (17 عامًا) إلى كابوس قاسٍ، بعدما أصيب برصاصة إسرائيلية في رأسه أطلقها قناص بينما كان متوجهًا نحو “مؤسسة غزة الإنسانية” جنوبي وادي غزة، بحثًا عن الطحين والغذاء لأسرته التي أنهكها الحصار والجوع.

وقالت سعاد عبد القادر والدة أحمد، إن نجلها كان يدرس في مرحلة الثانوية العامة – الفرع العلمي، ويعشق الرياضة والكاراتيه، ويحلم أن يصبح مهندسًا في مجال تكنولوجيا المعلومات، لكنه يرقد اليوم على سرير في مستشفى شهداء الأقصى، وقد أضعفه سوء التغذية حتى أصبح هيكلًا عظميًا.

رحلة الألم
وأضافت الأم المريضة بالسرطان في حديثها للجزيرة مباشر: “أحمد ابني الوحيد وكان السند بعد رحيل والده. كان طموحًا ومرحًا ورياضيًا ومحبوبًا بين الناس، وعقله كمبيوتر. يوم اشتدت المجاعة، قال لي: (يما بدي أطلع أجيبلكم طحين). حاولت منعه، وقلت له كمل دراستك يا أحمد، لكن كان يرد: (رضاكي يما). ذهب ولم يعد كما كان”.

وأوضحت أن ابنها توجه إلى منطقة نتساريم (وسط القطاع) بحثًا عن الطعام، فأصيب برصاصة قاتلة في الرأس، نُقل على أثرها إلى مستشفى شهداء الأقصى، متابعة: “اتصلوا بي قالوا لي أحمد مصاب.. أجروا له عملية واستأصلوا عظمة من رأسه ووضعوها في بطنه، وبعد أسبوعين قالوا إنها تعفنت وتآكلت، وكل يوم حالته تسوء”.



بين المرض والجوع
وأشارت والدة أحمد إلى أنه بجانب إصابته البالغة، يعاني من سوء تغذية حاد، إذ فقد أكثر من 50 كيلوغرامًا من وزنه، حتى باتت ملامحه لا تشبه شبابه، ويحتاج اليوم إلى رعاية خاصة، من أدوية ومستلزمات أساسية مثل الحفاضات، والأهم فرصة للعلاج في الخارج بعد انهيار المنظومة الصحية في غزة.

نداء أم مكلومة
وناشدت والدته العالم والإنسانية، قائلة: “أناشد كل إنسان أن ينظر لابني وهو الآن يصارع بين الحياة والموت، وليس في غزة ما يعيد له صحته… وأرجو أن يسافر خارج القطاع لتقلي العلاج اللازم.. ابني كان يحلم أن يصبح مهندسًا، والآن حلمه الوحيد أن يعيش”.

ومنذ بدء الحرب على غزة في 7 أكتوبر/ تشرين الأول 2023، خرجت عن الخدمة 38 مستشفى و96 مركزا للرعاية الصحية و197 سيارة إسعاف، بسبب تعمد جيش الاحتلال الإسرائيلي استهداف القطاع الصحي، وفق بيانات المكتب الإعلامي الحكومي بغزة.

ويأتي ذلك بالإضافة إلى الحصار الإسرائيلي على القطاع منذ 2 مارس/ آذار الماضي، ومنع دخول المساعدات الطبية والغذائية، ما ضاعف من انهيار النظام الصحي ومعاناة المرضى والجرحى.
