Lebanese Health Ministry: 3 Killed and 6 Injured Paramedics in Israeli Airstrikes on Mefdoun in Southern Lebanon

The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced today, Wednesday, that "the Israeli enemy targeted ambulance teams three times in succession in the town of Mefdoun, Nabatieh district, resulting in the martyrdom of three paramedics and the injury of six others. One paramedic remains missing."

In a statement, the Ministry detailed that "an ambulance team belonging to the Health Authority was targeted while attempting to rescue the injured, resulting in the martyrdom of one paramedic, while the second remains missing." The statement added, "When a second ambulance from the Health Authority went to rescue the paramedics, it was targeted, injuring three more."



The ministry continued: “In a third rescue attempt, two ambulances, one from the Al-Risala Association and the other from the Nabatieh Ambulance Service, were also targeted, resulting in the martyrdom of two paramedics and injuries to three others.”


The ministry stressed that it “strongly condemns this heinous crime, which reflects the Israeli enemy’s insistence on preventing paramedics from carrying out their rescue work in any way possible, to the point that they have become targets of the enemy, who relentlessly pursue them in a blatant violation that confirms the disregard for all norms and principles established by international humanitarian law.”


The ministry appealed to “international humanitarian organizations to work to put an end to this dangerous violation of the wounded person’s right to rescue and the paramedic’s right to protection, in order to uphold human conscience and the dignity of international law.”




For his part, Minister of Administrative Development Fadi Makki offered his condolences to the families of the paramedics in Mefdoun.


He said: “On behalf of the Lebanese government, I extend my deepest condolences to the families of the paramedics martyred in the double attack in the town of Mefdoun, where they were targeted again while carrying out their humanitarian duties, resulting in a number of martyrs and wounded among the medical teams.”


Makki pointed out that “targeting humanitarian and relief workers constitutes a new war crime added to the record of repeated Israeli crimes against Lebanon and its people, and a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and all norms and conventions that protect medical and ambulance personnel.”


He added: “We are working to systematically document these crimes in preparation for pursuing the necessary legal avenues to hold Israel accountable before the relevant international bodies.”

أعلنت وزارة الصحة في لبنان، اليوم الأربعاء، أن "العدو الإسرائيلي استهدف ثلاث مرات متتالية فرقاً إسعافية في بلدة ميفدون قضاء النبطية، ما أدى إلى استشهاد ثلاثة مسعفين وإصابة ستة بجروح ولا يزال أحد المسعفين مفقوداً".


 

وفي التفاصيل، أشارت في بيان إلى أنه "تم استهداف فريق إسعافي تابع للهيئة الصحية خلال محاولته إنقاذ مصابين، ما أدى إلى استشهاد مسعف فيما لا يزال المسعف الثاني مفقوداً"، مضيفةً: "وعند توجه سيارة إسعاف ثانية للهيئة الصحية لإنقاذ المسعفين، تم استهدافها فجرح ثلاثة مسعفين".

 

وتابعت الوزراة: "وفي محاولة إنقاذ ثالثة، توجهت سيارتا إسعاف لكل من جمعية الرسالة وإسعاف النبطية، فاستهدفتا أيضاً، ما أدى إلى استشهاد اثنين من المسعفين وإصابة ثلاثة بجروح".

 

وشددت على أنها "تشجب بشدة هذه الجريمة الموصوفة التي تعكس إصرار العدو الإسرائيلي على منع المسعفين من أداء عملهم الإنقاذي بأي شكل من الأشكال، لدرجة أنهم أصبحوا هدفاً للعدو الذي يلاحقهم من دون هوادة في خرق فاضح يؤكد الاستهانة بكل الأعراف والمبادئ التي يقرها القانون الإنساني الدولي".

 

وناشدت الوزراة "المنظمات الإنسانية الدولية للعمل على وضع حد لهذه الاستباحة الخطرة لحق الجريح في الإنقاذ والمسعف في الحماية صوناً للضمير الإنساني ولهيبة القوانين الدولية".

 


 

بدوره، تقدّم وزير التنمية الإدارية فادي مكي بالتعازي إلى أهالي المسعفين في ميفدون.

 

وقال: "باسم الحكومة اللبنانية، أتقدّم بأصدق التعازي إلى أهالي المسعفين الشهداء جرّاء الاستهداف المزدوج في بلدة ميفدون، حيث تم استهدافهم مجدداً أثناء قيامهم بمهامهم الإنسانية، ما أسفر عن سقوط عدد من الشهداء والجرحى في الطواقم الصحية".

 

وأشار مكي ‏إلى أن "استهداف العاملين في المجالين الإنساني والإغاثي يُشكّل جريمة حرب جديدة تُضاف إلى سجل الجرائم الإسرائيلية المتكرّرة بحق لبنان وشعبه، وانتهاكًا فاضحاً للقانون الدولي الإنساني ولكل الأعراف والمواثيق التي تحمي الطواقم الطبية والإسعافية".

 

وأضاف: "‏إننا نعمل على توثيق هذه الجرائم توثيقاً منهجياً، تمهيداً لسلوك المسارات القانونية اللازمة لمحاسبة إسرائيل أمام المحافل الدولية المختصة".
