Perhaps the fear and terror that Palestinians have lived with since the occupation were embodied in the eyes of Muhammad al-Durrah's father, who held his son as he breathed his last, struck by Israeli fire 23 years ago. These are scenes that time and events will never erase. The memory of Muhammad al-Durrah, whose martyrdom shakes the Arab world every year, brings back a tragic scene.

Today, 23 years later, Muhammad al-Durrah's father bid farewell to his two brothers, Nael and Iyad, who were killed in the bombing in Gaza. He appeared weeping, saying, "May God have mercy on them, martyrs. Reserve a place for me. It's enough that we live." Al-Durrah's father recounted the details of his martyrdom, saying: "After the dawn prayer, we performed ablution in Deir al-Balah. There was a terrifying bombardment; barrel bombs were dropped on our homes and the homes of our neighbors. Eleven members of our family were martyred, most of them children. My wife, my children, and I miraculously survived. This is a war of extermination. We are against displacement, against killing, and against the occupation, but unfortunately, the world is unjust."

The Palestinian child, Muhammad al-Durrah, was martyred at the beginning of the 21st century, specifically on September 30, 2000, at the hands of the Israeli occupation forces, coinciding with the Al-Aqsa Intifada.

ربما تجسدت مشاعر الخوف والرعب الذي يعيشه أهالي فلسطين منذ الاحتلال في عينيه، والد محمد الدرة الذي أمسك بشهيده، وهو يلفظ أنفاسه الأخيرة جراء رصاص الاحتلال منذ 23 عاما، لقطات ومشاهد لم ولن يمحيها الزمن أو الأحداث، الشهيد محمد الدرة الذي تزلزل ذكراه في كل عام العالم العربي، وتعود بنا لمشهد مأساوي.

واليوم، وبعد 23 عاما، ودع والد محمد الدرة، شقيقيه نائل وإياد، نتيجة القصف في غزة، إذ ظهر وهو يبكي ويودعهما قائلًا: «الله يرحمهم شهداء احجزولي مكان، كفاية نفسنا نعيش».
وسرد والد الدرة تفاصيل الاستشهاد، قائلًا: «بعد أذان الفجر اتوضينا دير البلح - كان في قصف مرعب براميل متفجرات على بيوتنا وبيوت الجيران، من عائلة 11 شهيد، ومعظمهم أطفال، أنا وزوجتي وأولادي نجينا بأعجوبة إلهية دي حرب إبادة إحنا ضد التهجير وضد القتل وضد الاحتلال ولكن للأسف العالم ظالم».

واستشهد الطفل الفلسطيني محمد الدرة في مطلع القرن الـ21، وتحديدًا في 30 سبتمبر عام 2000، على أيدي قوات الاحتلال الإسرائيلي، تزامنًا مع انتفاضة الأقصى.
