Five foreigners from the World Central Kitchen organization were killed.

Five people, including foreign aid workers from international organizations, were killed and others wounded on Monday evening in an Israeli airstrike on Deir al-Balah, in the central Gaza Strip, according to Reuters.

Palestinian local sources reported that Israeli forces targeted a civilian vehicle on the coastal road west of Deir al-Balah, killing four aid workers. A child was also killed and 20 others were wounded in an Israeli airstrike that targeted the al-Bashir Mosque in the al-Hakar area of Deir al-Balah.

The World Central Kitchen organization stated that the killing of its team members in the Gaza Strip by Israel was "tragic," emphasizing that targeting humanitarian aid workers and civilians in and outside the Gaza Strip is strictly prohibited.

Who is the World Central Kitchen organization?

It is an organization that provides food aid and ready meals to those in need in many areas around the world. Last month, the organization stated that it had provided more than 42 million meals in Gaza over a period of 175 days. The organization began its work in 2010 when chef José Andrés sent cooks and food to Haiti after an earthquake. Since then, it has delivered food to communities affected by natural disasters, refugees on the US border, healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, and people in conflict zones in Ukraine and Gaza.

According to the Palestinian News and Information Agency (WAFA), the number of Palestinian martyrs as a result of the military operations in the Gaza Strip since October 7 has risen to 32,845, the majority of whom are children and women. An additional 75,392 Palestinians have been wounded, while thousands remain missing under the rubble.

ومن جانبها، قالت منظمة "المطبخ المركزي العالمي"، إن مقتل أعضاء من فريقنا في قطاع غزة على يد إسرائيل "أمر مأساوي"، مشددة، بأنه يحظر تمامًا استهداف عمال الإغاثة الإنسانية والمدنيين في القطاع وخارجه.

وبحسب وكالة الأنباء والمعلومات الفلسطينية "وفا"، ارتفع عدد الشهداء الفلسطينيين جراء العمليات العسكرية على قطاع غزة منذ السابع من أكتوبر الماضي، إلى 32 ألفًا و845 شهيدًا، أغلبيتهم من الأطفال والنساء، إضافة إلى 75 ألفًا و392 مصابًا، فيما لا يزال آلاف المواطنين في عداد المفقودين تحت الأنقاض.
