The dreams of orphaned student Ahmed Saadi Abdel Qader, 17, turned into a cruel nightmare after he was shot in the head by an Israeli sniper while heading towards the Gaza Humanitarian Company south of Wadi Gaza in the central Gaza Strip, searching for flour and food for his family.

Ahmed, who was in his final year of high school (science track), loved karate, and dreamed of becoming an engineer, now lies in Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, weakened by malnutrition to the point of being a skeleton.

His mother, Suad Abdel Qader, 59, who is battling cancer, has been displaced seven times from Shuja'iyya to Nuseirat, and she and her family bear the burden of losing two martyrs and suffering five injuries. Their story embodies one of the most harrowing chapters of the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza.
