I was saddened by the martyrdom of my dear neighbor Abdul Aziz Aliyan (Abu Mahmoud) and his wife, Hajja Umm Mahmoud. I don't know who else from his family was martyred with him, as his granddaughter, Ruba Attallah, wrote that all members of her grandfather's family were martyred in a cowardly Zionist bombing of the home of her aunt's husband, Dr. Abdul Latif Al-Hajj, in the Nuseirat camp after they had been displaced there from the Shati camp. Hajj Abdul Aziz was a dear neighbor, brother, and friend to me despite the age difference between us. We often sat together and talked in his orchard or in my rural home northwest of Beit Lahia about the country, the Nakba, the refugee crisis, and steadfastness. We had many meetings and many conversations, all about the homeland. Muhammad and Mahmoud were among my dearest friends. I met them daily when I was in Gaza. They were among the best people I have ever known. A great pain overwhelms me, my wife, and my children over their loss. Today, on behalf of myself and my family, I extend my deepest condolences to our dear friend Akram Atallah, the renowned journalist, his wife Khitam, his daughters Saba and Ruba, his son Yazan, and the rest of his family.
May you rest in eternal peace, Abu Mahmoud and Umm Mahmoud. Your memory will remain in our hearts as long as we live. The loss of someone like you is truly felt.

حزنت لاستشهاد الجار العزيز عبد العزيز عليان (ابومحمود ) وزوجته الحاجة أم محمود ولا ادري من ايضا من افراد اسرته قد استشهد معه ، حيث كتبت حفيدته ربى عطا الله ان كل افراد اسرة جدها قد استشهدوا في قصف صهيوني جبان على منزل زوج خالتها د.عبد اللطيف الحاج في مخيم النصيرات بعد ان نزحوا اليه من مخيم الشاطئ، كان الحاج عبد العزيز جاراً عزيز واخاً وصديقاً لي رغم فارق السن بيننا، لطالما جلسنا معاً وتحدثنا في بيارته او في منزلي الريفي شمال غرب بيت لاهيا عن البلاد وعن النكبة واللجوء والصمود ، كثيرة هي لقاءاتنا كثيرة هي احاديثنا وكلها عن الوطن، وكان محمد ومحمود من اعز الاصدقاء ، التقيتهم عندما كنت في غزة، بشكل يومي كانوا من افضل الناس اللذين عرفت في حياتي، ألم كبير يجتاحنا أنا وزوجتي وابنائي على فقدانهم.
وليس لي اليوم ، إلا أن اتقدم باسمي وأسرتي بأحر التعازي للصديق العزيز اكرم عطالله الكاتب الصحفي المعروف وزوجته ختام وبناته صبا وربا وابناءه يزن والاخرين.
إلى جنات الخلود يا ابا محمود ويا ام محمود ، ستبقى ذكراكم في قلوبنا ما حيينا فمثلكم يفتقد الانسان.
