Drones Target Oman's Salalah Port; Sultanate Condemns Attack

Worker Injured, Facilities Damaged

The Oman News Agency reported on Saturday that two drones targeted Salalah Port, resulting in moderate injuries to an expatriate worker and minor damage to a crane at the port facilities.

The Sultanate of Oman condemned the "heinous attacks," affirming that it is "taking all necessary measures to maintain the security of the country and the safety of its residents." The battles are entering their most dangerous phase, approaching the worst memories for the peoples of the Middle East and their conflicts since the 1980s: energy facilities and export routes. After 20 days of war between Iran and the American-Israeli alliance, the flames spread to infrastructure and drew countries outside the war zone into the most alarming scenarios with regional and international consequences. In total, Iranian strikes targeted 10 important oil and gas facilities in the region, 4 of them in Iraq and 6 in the Gulf countries, not to mention the battles reaching the southern shores of Iran, and countless oil tankers being damaged from Khor Abdullah near Basra to the Strait of Hormuz towards India. Perhaps the most serious incident so far was the bombing of the world's largest liquefied natural gas production facility, which suffered "serious" damage as a result of the Iranian strikes on Qatar. While the international danger seems greater regarding the Strait of Hormuz, the damage to infrastructure in Iraq and the Gulf and the level of security in them as a result of the battles is something whose exorbitant cost in the investment market and energy development is difficult to measure.

أفادت وكالة الأنباء العمانية، السبت، عن استهداف ميناء صلالة بطائرتين مسيّرتين، أسفر عن إصابة متوسطة لأحد الوافدين العاملين بالميناء، وتعرض إحدى الرافعات في مرافق الميناء لأضرار محدودة.
وأكدت سلطنة عمان إدانتها “للاستهدافات الغاشمة”، مؤكدة “اتخاذها كافة الإجراءات الكفيلة بالحفاظ على أمن البلاد وسلامة القاطنين عليها”.
وتدخل المعارك مرحلة هي الأخطر وتقترب من أسوأ بقع الذاكرة لدى شعوب الشرق الأوسط وصراعاتها منذ الثمانينات، وهي منشآت الطاقة ومسارات التصدير، فبعد 20 يوماً من الحرب بين إيران والتحالف الأميركي الإسرائيلي، تمددت النيران نحو البنى التحتية وأقحمت بلداناً خارج نطاق الحرب، في أشد السيناريوهات إنذاراً بالعواقب الإقليمية والدولية، وفي الإجمال استهدفت الضربات الإيرانية 10 منشآت نفط وغاز مهمة في المنطقة، 4 منها في العراق، و6 في بلدان الخليج، ناهيك عن وصول المعارك إلى شواطئ إيران الجنوبية، وتضرر ما لا يحصى من ناقلات البترول من خور عبد الله قرب البصرة حتى مضيق هرمز نحو بلاد الهند، ولعل أخطرها حتى الآن قصف أكبر موقع لإنتاج الغاز الطبيعي المسال في العالم وتعرضه لأضرار “جسيمة” جراء الضربات الإيرانية على قطر، وإذ يبدو الخطر الدولي أكبر بشأن مضيق هرمز، فإن البنى التحتية في العراق والخليج وتضرر مستوى الأمان فيها جراء المعارك، أمر يصعب قياس كلفته الباهظة في سوق الاستثمار وتنمية الطاقة.
