A person was injured Monday evening when debris from a drone heading toward the US Embassy in Baghdad fell after it was intercepted by Iraqi air defenses, according to a police official.

The official said that "a civilian was injured by drone debris in the Shalgiyah area," near the Green Zone, which houses diplomatic missions, international organizations, and Iraqi government agencies. He added that the drone "was heading" toward the US Embassy.

Meanwhile, an official with the Iraqi Joint Operations Command reported that "a missile and two drones targeted the Diplomatic Support Center" of the US Embassy, located within the Baghdad International Airport complex, on Monday evening.

أُصيب شخص بجروح، مساء الاثنين، حين سقطت شظايا مسيّرة كانت متجهة نحو السفارة الأميركية في بغداد وتصدّت لها الدفاعات الجوية العراقية، بحسب مسؤول في الشرطة.
وقال المسؤول إن "شخصا مدنيا أُصيب في سقوط شظايا مسيّرة في منطقة الشالجية" القريبة من المنطقة الخضراء حيث تقع بعثات دبلوماسية ومؤسسات دولية وهيئات حكومية عراقية، مشيرا إلى أن المسيّرة "كانت متجهة" نحو السفارة الامريكية.
وفي الموازاة، أفاد مسؤول في قيادة العمليات المشتركة العراقية بأن "هجوما بالصواريخ وبمسيّرتَين استهدف (مساء الاثنين) مركز الدعم الدبلوماسي" التابع للسفارة الأميركية والواقع في مجمع مطار بغداد الدولي.
