He was with us in Amman, along with his life partner, a week before this horrific aggression. He stayed for 25 days, during which he underwent surgery and numerous medical checkups. The first picture shows an unmistakable joy. At sunset under the Madaba sky on Mount Nebo in late September, Sister Amina Al-Dahdouh, "Umm Hamza," felt a surge of happiness as the distant horizon carried the breezes of Palestine—breezes denied to the people of Gaza, who are not allowed to enter their homeland, from which they were displaced by an injustice that continues to this day.

Palestine dwells within them, wherever they may be, and despair finds no place in their hearts, even though Umm Hamza carries the heavy memory of four of her brothers being martyred during an Israeli aggression years ago, while Abu Hamza bid farewell to two of his brothers in the past decade, martyred by the treacherous missiles of the occupation. I have never seen a man as tender and close to his wife as Wael. His beloved Umm Hamza was a world unto herself, a haven of peace and affection. During his time in the operating room at the hospital in Amman, his life partner never ceased praying for him. It was as if they had just met, such was their devotion, love, and tenderness.

I pray to the Almighty that He accepts our martyred sister Umm Hamza, her martyred son Mahmoud, and her martyred little girl Sham into the highest Paradise. May He grant patience and solace to my brother and friend Wael Al-Dahdouh, so that he may remain as I have always known him: patient, faithful, and steadfast. He is one of the greatest journalists who have borne the burden of documenting the Palestinian tragedy in a world overflowing with injustice, Zionism, and ugliness.

My heart and soul are with you, my dear brother Wael, and with our patient people in wounded Gaza. To God we belong, and to Him we shall return. #WeAreAllWael

كان بيننا في عمان ومعه رفيقة دربه قبل اسبوع من هذا العدوان البشع .. بقي 25 يوماً أجرى فيها عملية جراحية إضافة إلى مراجعات طبية عديدة .. في الصورة الأولى فرحة لا تخطئها العين ، ففي لحظة المغيب تحت سماء مادبا في جبل نيبو أواخر شهر أيلول الماضي ، شعرت الأخت آمنة الدحدوح " أم حمزة " بما يغمر قلبها بالسعادة لأن الأفق البعيد خلفها يحمل نسمات فلسطين .. تلك النسمات التي حُرم أبناء غزة منها ، فليس مسموحاً لهم أن يدخلوا إلى بلادهم التي هُجروا منها ذات ظلم ما زال قائما .
فلسطين تسكنهما في الحل والترحال ، ولا يعرف اليأس طريقاً إلى قلبيهما رغم أن ام حمزة احتفظت بذاكرة ثقيلة إرتقى فيها أربعة من أشقائها إلى رحمة ربهم شهداء خلال عدوان اسرائيلي في سنوات مضت فيما ودّع أبو حمزة في العقد الماضي إثنين من أشقائه الذين استشهدوا بصواريخ الاحتلال الغادرة .
ما رأيت رجلاً حنوناً وقريباً من زوجته كما وائل ، كما كانت غاليته أم حمزة وطناً ودنيا تملأها السكينة والمودة .. وخلال فترة وجوده في غرفة العمليات بالمستشفى في عمان ، لم تتوقف رفيقة العمر عن الدعاء له .. يشعر المرء وكأنهما تعرفا إلى بعضهما للتو من فرط الحرص والحب والمودة .
ألهج إلى العلي القدير أن يتقبل أختنا الشهيدة أم حمزة وإبنها الشهيد محمود وصغيرتها الشهيدة شام في الفردوس الأعلى ، وأن يربط الرحمن على قلب أخي وصديقي وائل الدحدوح ليبقى كما عرفته صابراً مؤمناً ورجلاً محتسباً .. وواحداً من أكبر الصحافيين الذين حملوا عبء توثيق المأساة الفلسطينية في عالم يفيض ظلماً وتصهيناً وقبحاً .
