House Of Elian - Stories That Survive
Translated Content:
In a single blow, at precisely 4:20 AM, time ceased in a home once brimming with laughter and warmth. Forty-nine souls, flesh and blood, were transformed into a memory that weighs heavily on the heart, yet simultaneously lifts it up—lifts it up because they were unlike any other.
We mourn our mother, Zainab… a woman who embodied the strength of mountains and the gentleness of a breeze. She championed the oppressed without flinching, spoke truth to power even when alone, stood firm with the unwavering resolve of a woman who knows her place, and her heart knew precisely when to embrace and when to give.
In her presence, the world felt awe-inspiring… and in her absence, emptiness has found its voice.
And we mourn our father, Abdul Aziz… the boy who left Hirbiya at the age of ten, and toiled until he became a man who carried the world with a smile.
He was self-made, tender-hearted, his tears readily flowing because they came from a pure heart. His face was radiant, he generously gave his money, his time, and his very soul, beloved wherever he went. His door was never closed to anyone in need, and his hand was never stingy with anyone, as if generosity were a natural part of his blood.
Together, they raised us on values that resembled them:
Strength that doesn't become tyrannical...
Justice that doesn't discriminate...
Courage that doesn't seek recognition...
Love of country... Honoring people... Helping those in need...
They raised us to stand firm, no matter how strong the winds blow.
And we mourn our brothers, sisters, and their children...
Three young brothers, two sisters, and entire families who filled the house with life and light.
We mourn Mahmoud and his wife Sally and their children Zein El-Din, Lubna, Kinan, and Sari... Muhammad and his children Ezz El-Din, Lian, Adnan, and Adam... Youssef, the nurse who dedicated his life to others... Nisreen and her daughters Israa, Afnan, Raghad, and Misk... Hussam and Issam and their sons Esraa, Muhammad, and Ismail... We mourn Jihan and her husband Khaled and their son Musa... Lina and her husband and their children Yahya and Lin...
We mourn Aya's children: Majd and his wife Amani and her young daughter Sarah, Qassam, Dima and her husband Muhammad and their child Abdul Hakim…
We mourn our relative Mahmoud Abdul Rabbo and his family… and Fadwa Al-Hajj, sister of our brother-in-law Dr. Abdul Latif Al-Hajj, and her children… and Wafaa, wife of our martyred uncle Adnan Al-Ghoul.
We mourn 49 moons who were our entire sky.
O you who have departed…
The echo of your footsteps still resonates in the hallways of our home…
And your laughter, your pictures, and your memories remain a song that will never be silenced.
You left in an instant, but you remain in every detail of our lives.
You remain in the way we speak the truth,
In the hand that extends in kindness,
In the generosity we learned,
And in the patience you carried throughout your lives.
May God have mercy on you,
And elevate your ranks,
And reunite us with you in a home where no family is separated from another,
And where no candle from our hearts is ever extinguished.
The loss of an entire family… is not merely the absence of individuals, but the collapse of an entire world. It is when laughter, like waves crashing down the sea, is extinguished in an instant, and the voices that brought life to the home fall silent.
It is when father, mother, and children depart, and the tree, roots and branches alike, falls, leaving the land they loved as a witness that the place after them is no longer the same, and that the days after them have lost their order.
The loss of an entire family is like having the heart of the house ripped from its place, leaving the walls standing lifeless...
It is a pain immeasurable, unhealed, yet carried in the heart as a sacred trust... the trust of their love, their memory, and the indelible mark they left within us.
