Forty days have passed since the departure of forty-eight moons to the heavens... The world has darkened since your departure, and our hearts are broken beyond repair.
I feel immense guilt and shame that there wasn't enough time to mourn you as you deserve. We didn't have time to grieve, to weep, or even to scream. We don't sleep at night, fearing for the remaining family members, displaced in different areas of Gaza. Did they survive the bombing? Are they alive? Were their homes destroyed? Did they?
O Lord, grant us patience, patience, and strength to bear our affliction. Life has lost its meaning and is no longer the same, nor will it ever be again. You are gone, but your memory remains, fragrant like musk. We will never forget you, no matter how much time passes. We cannot continue our lives without you as they were, but we will begin a new chapter with new people, but it will be tasteless and colorless.
God says that the martyrs are alive with Him, receiving sustenance, and they are alive... but we are the dead after you.
