Foreigners killed after Israel targeted UN vehicle west of Deir al-Balah in Gaza

Al Jazeera's correspondent reported that four foreigners were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a vehicle belonging to the World Central Kitchen organization in Deir al-Balah, in the central Gaza Strip, on Monday night.

The Gaza Government Media Office stated that the Israeli occupation forces assassinated the aid team, which consisted of a Briton, a Pole, an Australian, and one unidentified individual.

It added that the Israeli airstrike also resulted in the death of their Palestinian driver.

World Central Kitchen, based in the United States, had organized, in cooperation with the Spanish organization Open Arms, shipments of humanitarian aid to Gaza, which were sent via two ships that sailed from Cyprus on March 12 and 30. In a statement signed by the "National and Islamic Forces" in the Gaza Strip, the factions said that "the brutal raid targeted armored vehicles bearing well-known international markings."

They considered that "this heinous crime is a message of intimidation to the entire world and to the international efforts seeking to alleviate the suffering of our people."

وكانت منظمة ورلد سنترال كيتشن -ومقرها الولايات المتحدة- قد نظمت بالتعاون مع جمعية "أوبن آرمز" (الأذرع المفتوحة) الإسبانية، شحنات من المساعدات الإنسانية إلى غزة تم إرسالها عبر سفينتين أبحرتا من قبرص في 12 و30 مارس/آذار.

من جهته، قال الجيش الإسرائيلي إنه يجري مراجعة "لفهم ظروف الحادث المأساوي الذي تعرض له فريق ورلد سنترال كيتشن".
وأضاف أنه يعمل بشكل وثيق مع هذه المنظمة لتوفير الغذاء والمساعدات الإنسانية لسكان غزة.
من ناحية أخرى، أدانت فصائل فلسطينية ما وصفتها بالمجزرة بحق طواقم العمل الإنساني الأجنبية في المحافظة الوسطى.
وقالت الفصائل -في بيان بتوقيع "القوى الوطنية والإسلامية" في قطاع غزة- إن "الغارة الغاشمة استهدفت سيارات مصفحة تحمل إشارات دولية معروفة".
ورأت أن "هذه الجريمة البشعة رسالة ترهيب لكل العالم وللجهود الدولية التي تسعى لتخفيف معاناة شعبنا".
