According to local media, the assault began around 1 a.m. local time when heavily armed militants breached the compound near the Elwak police station, damaging vehicles and infrastructure.Additionally, in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, U.S AFRICOM confirmed it conducted airstrikes on December 15, 2025, targeting Al-Shabaab in the vicinity of Araare, approximately 50 km northeast of Kismayo. AFRICOM stated the strikes were part of ongoing efforts, alongside Somali forces, to degrade Al-Shabaab’s ability to threaten regional stability, U.S. forces, and civilians.
