The government will bear the education costs of the two children of Mosharraf Hossain, a Bangladeshi migrant worker killed in a missile strike in Saudi Arabia, Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Adviser Ariful Haque Chowdhury said today.

After receiving Mosharraf’s body at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Ariful told reporters that the family would receive all financial support due under government rules, along with further assistance from the state.

“We stood by expatriates during the wartime situation in the Middle East, we are with them now, and we will always remain by their side in the future,” he said. “The family of the deceased will be given the support they are entitled to under government policy.”

The adviser added that the ministry would bear any additional financial assistance the family may need. He also said the government would extend maximum support to those wishing to return to their host countries once the war situation ends.

During the handover of the body to the family, Ariful handed over a cheque of Tk 50,000 for burial expenses. The family will also receive Tk 300,000 in financial assistance from the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board after Eid.

At the airport, Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan said the government would provide every possible financial support to the victim’s family.

Foreign Affairs State Minister Shama Obaid Islam said the government was working relentlessly to ensure the safety of Bangladeshi expatriates in Middle East countries affected by the war.

“All ministries and government agencies concerned are active. Our missions in the respective countries are maintaining contact with Bangladeshi nationals and monitoring their safety closely,” she said.

She added that the prime minister had instructed authorities to prioritise the safety of Bangladeshi citizens during the conflict and expressed hope that the crisis would be resolved through diplomacy and dialogue.

Replying to a question, she said the government was prepared to bring back citizens from affected countries if required.

According to the ministry, Mosharraf was killed after a missile fired from Iran struck Saudi Arabia’s Al Kharj area. His body was flown from Riyadh on Saudi Airlines flight SV806 at 2:25am Saudi time and arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 10:45am local time.

Mosharraf, son of Surujat Ali, was from Kirtankhola village in Tangail’s Sakhipur upazila.

Senior officials present at the airport included Senior Secretary Dr Neyamat Ullah Bhuiyan, Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam, Wage Earners’ Welfare Board Director General Barrister Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, and Foreign Ministry Director General (Consular Welfare) Dewan Ali Ashraf.

So far, five Bangladeshis have been killed in the US-Israel war on Iran. The conflict’s impact began on February 28, when Ahmed Ali, also known as Saleh Ahmed, died in the UAE. SM Tareq was killed in Bahrain on March 2. On March 8, Bacchu Miah of Kishoreganj and Mosharraf Hossain of Tangail were killed in the same missile strike in Saudi Arabia’s Al Kharj area, where Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun was critically injured and later died in Riyadh on March 18 while undergoing treatment.
