He was a beloved boy, he wanted to contribute to the country, a salt of the earth." The uncle said that his nephew "had ambitions after he was discharged. He wanted to contribute, he wanted to study or work in the Ministry of Defense, to do something with the fact that he was a combat soldier." ביומו התשיעי של מבצע "שומר החומות", עלה מניין ההרוגים בצד הישראלי ל-13. באשקלון מתו ביום שלישי סהומיה סנטוש ונלה גורביץ' בשני אירועים נפרדים – מפגיעות רקטה. בראשון לציון מתה באותו יום לאה יום טוב, גם היא מפגיעת רקטה. שכנתה אילנה כהן מתה כשלקתה בליבה לאחר שביתה נפגע מרקטה. ביום רביעי לפנות בוקר מתו תושבי הכפר הבלתי מוכר דהמש שליד לוד חליל עוואד ובתו נדין. סמ"ר עומר טביב נפגע באותו יום מטיל נ"ט שנורה בעוטף עזה, ובמטח שנורה בערב לשדרות נהרג עידו אביגל בן החמש. ביום חמישי מתה מרים אריה ממושב שתולים בדרכה לממ"ד, בשישי הלכה לעולמה אורלי לירון, ממושב נטעים, שנפצעה בדרך לממ"ד. בשבת נהרג תושב רמת גן מפגיעה ישירה בביתו. ביום שלישי נהרגו שני פועלים מתאילנד מפגיעה באשכול.סנטוש בת ה-32 טיפלה באישה בבניין שניזוק מירי באשקלון. היא הותירה אחריה ילד בן תשע המתגורר בהודו. האישה בה טיפלה אושפזה במצב קשה. סנטוש עבדה בישראל במהלך שמונה השנים האחרונות.גורביץ' נהרגה מפגיעת רקטה בבניין מגוריה באשקלון. היא הותירה אחריה בעל - גרגורי, שנפצע קל מהירי.יום טוב נהרגה בהתפוצצות רקטה בראשון לציון. בניה סיפרו על "אישה מלאת שמחת חיים, שכל הזמן שמה את האחרים לפניה. אנחנו כל הזמן דיברנו איתה, היא הייתה אישה של אהבה, של עזרה, של נתינה גדולה". היא הותירה אחריה שני ילדים וחמישה נכדים. הילדים סיפרו על הבית שנפגע: "מגיל 13-12 אנחנו פה בבית הזה, מלאים בזיכרונות. הילדים שלנו מרגישים חלק מהבית הזה. כרגע הבית הפוך, מלא זכוכיות, תוהו ובוהו".שכנתה של לאה יום טוב, שנהרגה גם היא מפגיעת רקטה. כהן לקתה בליבה לאחר שביתה נפגע מרקטה.חליל ובתו נהרגו מפגיעה ישירה של רקטה בכפר הבלתי-מוכר דהמש שליד לוד. קרובי משפחתם ותושבי הכפר, שאין לו מעמד רשמי, סיפרו כי ביקשו בעבר לבנות בו מקלטים – אך ועדת התכנון והבנייה של מחוז מרכז לא אפשרה זאת. כתוצאה מכך, לא הייתה לקורבנות כל דרך להתפנות למרחב מוגן שייתכן שהיה מציל את חייהם. לפי עדויות מהמקום, הנערה הייתה בחדרה שבתוך הבית בזמן הירי – ואילו אביה עמד בכניסה לבית.טביב, לוחם נח"ל, נהרג מפגיעת טיל נ"ט בגבול רצועת עזה. עומר היה אמור להשתחרר מהצבא בעוד חודש. הוא הותיר אחריו הורים ואח בן 15.
