The captain of the tugboat Mussafah 2 disappeared in the Strait of Hormuz after video calling his wife

KOMPAS.TV - Three of the four Indonesian crew members were reported missing after the United Arab Emirates-flagged tugboat Mussafah 2 exploded and sank in the Strait of Hormuz, between the waters of the United Arab Emirates and Oman.

One of the crew members was reported to have made a video call before being declared missing.

The tugboat's captain, Miswar Paturusi, a resident of Pattedong Village, Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi, reportedly set sail on Thursday (March 5, 2026).

Before departing for the waters surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, Captain Miswar bid farewell to his wife, Marliani Ahmad, in Luwu via video call.

In the brief conversation, Miswar stated that he would sail to pick up the damaged ship.

The family then learned that Captain Miswar was reported missing after the tugboat Mussafah 2, which he captained, sailed in the Middle East region of the Strait of Hormuz.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the two injured Indonesian citizens are receiving treatment at hospitals in Oman and Abu Dhabi.

Meanwhile, the search for three other Indonesian citizens is still ongoing.

The families hope the Indonesian government will assist in the search for the Indonesian citizens reported missing in the Strait of Hormuz.
