Mehrshahr is an affluent residential district located in the southwest of Karaj, the capital of Alborz Province, Iran, approximately 30 kilometers (20 miles) west of Tehran. On the night of March 9–10, 2026, heavy bombardments were reported in the city, with strikes occurring near residential buildings, and one villa completely destroyed in the early morning attack, according to witnesses who spoke to BBC Persian. Geolocated video footage shows smoke and visible damage across parts of the neighborhood following heavy bombardments.
