The Bureau has obtained a document during a research trip to Pakistan identifying 20 people killed in a single drone strike.
The attack took place in March 2009 in Kurram, in Pakistan’s tribal regions bordering Afghanistan. After the strike, a local politician gathered the names of all local men killed and injured, as well as the names of their fathers, which we have redacted to protect their identities.
Until now no names had been reported. While in Pakistan, the Bureau also met two men who claimed to have witnessed the strike; several of the names they remembered match those on the document.
