This month, April 22nd, is his birthday, and April 4th is his day of departure. He sought martyrdom and attained it, and he gained the ultimate reward. O Lord, before the Maghrib prayer on the last Friday of Ramadan, have mercy on the one who was of good character and conduct, cheerful, of good repute, and dignified. O God, make the heroic martyr Hussein Matar one of the masters of Paradise, and make the Basin of Al-Kawthar his source of water, and the Prophet his intercessor, and Your shade his shade, and silk his garment. In every moment that passes over him in his grave, increase his bliss and happiness in this blessed month. O God, look upon him with favor and mercy, and grant him contentment in Your blessings. O God, have mercy on him as many times as Your servants have prayed and as many times as hands have been raised in supplication to You. O God, forgive him, O Most Forgiving, and admit him into Your spacious Paradise. O God, have mercy on him and forgive him with every drop of rain that falls from the sky. O God, have mercy on him as many times as those who have prayed upon Your Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.

The Palestine Chronicle spoke with a Palestinian nurse about the killing of three medics from the city of Beit Hanoun, in northern Gaza, by an Israeli strike on April 4. By Abdallah Aljamal – Gaza Even before the April 1 killing of six international humanitarian workers with the World Central Kitchen Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza did not spare anyone.  Aid workers, medics, civil defense workers, UNRWA members, firefighters, police officers were all killed in large numbers by Israel’s relentless airstrikes on Gaza in the last six months. According to a report issued by the World Health Organization on March 20, Israeli forces carried out 410 attacks on Gaza’s healthcare system. The brutal attacks have “resulted in 685 fatalities, 902 injuries, damage to 99 facilities and affected 104 ambulances”, according to the WHO.  The Palestine Chronicle spoke with a Palestinian nurse about the killing of three medics from the city of Beit Hanoun, in northern Gaza, by an Israeli strike on April 4. On that day, Israeli occupation forces bombed an ambulance belonging to Gaza’s Health Ministry, which was on its way to transport wounded and dead bodies in Beit Hanoun, resulting in the killing of the three.  ‘He Saved Dozens from Death’ Palestinian nurse Yaqoub Hamad told us that, among the killed medics, was his 33-year-old colleague Hussein Matar.  “My colleague Hussein remained at his post at the Kamal Adwan Hospital from the very first day of the war on Gaza, refusing to leave the northern area of the Strip, enduring hunger and thirst for the last six months,” Matar told The Palestine Chronicle. “Hussein only left briefly during its invasion by the occupation forces and returned after their withdrawal. He continued to provide medical services to the wounded and never took off his medic uniform,” he continued. According to Hamad, “Hussein helped save dozens of Palestinian wounded from death, evacuated hundreds of injured people, provided medical services and first aid to the wounded. He worked tirelessly, day and night.” “He also lost many loved ones, but continued his work nonetheless, because he thought it was the noblest of humanitarian actions in this horrific war.” Died in Uniform Hamad told us that Hussein was wearing the official medic uniform when he was killed.  “This did not prevent the occupation from bombing them, committing yet one more crime in the Gaza Strip.” Hamad has known Hussein for over 15 years. They studied together at the Islamic University in Gaza City. “Hussein was an ambitious young man who loved life and Palestine. He had many plans for the future, he wanted to complete his higher education, but Israel killed him, along with his dreams, on the 25th day or Ramadan”. Hamad told us that Hussein had a beautiful voice and “was blessed by God with the memorization of the entire Quran, leading people in Taraweeh prayers during the month of Ramadan.” This Ramadan, however, he chose to continue his humanitarian work, considering it more important under these horrific circumstances. Prophetic Dream “At the beginning of Ramadan, Hussein had a dream,” Hamad told us.  “He dreamed that he would be martyred on the 25th of Ramadan, and indeed, this is precisely the day he was killed by the occupation’s bombing,” the Palestinian nurse continued, with a trembling voice. “Hussein was killed while wearing his medic uniform,” he repeated, calling for the international community to investigate this crime. “My hope is that the current round of negotiations would result in an immediate and urgent halt to the criminal war that Israel has been waging against the population of Gaza.” (The Palestine Chronicle) – Abdallah Aljamal is a Gaza-based journalist. The AI-based tool called “Lavender” collects information on “almost everybody” in the Gaza Strip, Abraham said, adding that one source told him it’s nearly 90%. The machine is then meant to identify how probable it is that the targeted individuals are connected to Hamas or Islamic Jihad military wings. “This AI-based warfare, I think it’s completely dehumanizing. I think it allows militaries to bomb and maintain this aesthetics of international law, when in fact it’s not abiding by international law,” he said Thursday. In the first few weeks of the war, his sources said they were not forced to apply “any thorough supervision over the results,” Abraham told CNN. “One source told me he would spend roughly 20 seconds before authorizing each target, and the only supervision he needed to do was check if the targets the machine marked was a male or a female.” Abraham noted that the machine would sometimes mark individuals with either a loose connection to Hamas or none at all. Video of the aftermath shot for CNN shows heavy destruction, with debris and rubble from destroyed buildings strewn along the road. At least one building has been entirely flattened, and four others have had their facades torn clean off. Smashed parts of the buildings, such as wooden doors and metal window frames have been ripped apart and can be seen strewn among the rubble. Residents including dozens of children are shown in the footage sifting through the debris of the destroyed buildings. One Palestinian man can be heard questioning why Israeli forces struck the area, saying everyone who lived there were civilians, not militants. Inside one of the destroyed homes, blankets, clothes and toys are laid out in front of three children, two boys and one little girl who are looking for their belongings. An ambulance driver for the hospital, Abdallah Hemaid, told CNN that some civilians were scavenging in a field for plants or vegetation they could eat when Israeli artillery fire targeted the area. Hemaid said when the initial attack took place, nearby civilians rushed over to try to help the injured. But then another round of artillery fire killed three people and injured several children, all from the same family, he said. The Gazan health worker told CNN he was forced to shut down his dental center in Nuseirat refugee camp, after Israel’s bombardment damaged the area in northern Gaza and forced locals to flee. The AI-based tool called “Lavender” collects information on “almost everybody” in the Gaza Strip, Abraham said, adding that one source told him it’s nearly 90%. The machine is then meant to identify how probable it is that the targeted individuals are connected to Hamas or Islamic Jihad military wings. “This AI-based warfare, I think it’s completely dehumanizing. I think it allows militaries to bomb and maintain this aesthetics of international law, when in fact it’s not abiding by international law,” he said Thursday. In the first few weeks of the war, his sources said they were not forced to apply “any thorough supervision over the results,” Abraham told CNN. “One source told me he would spend roughly 20 seconds before authorizing each target, and the only supervision he needed to do was check if the targets the machine marked was a male or a female.” Abraham noted that the machine would sometimes mark individuals with either a loose connection to Hamas or none at all. Video of the aftermath shot for CNN shows heavy destruction, with debris and rubble from destroyed buildings strewn along the road. At least one building has been entirely flattened, and four others have had their facades torn clean off. Smashed parts of the buildings, such as wooden doors and metal window frames have been ripped apart and can be seen strewn among the rubble. Residents including dozens of children are shown in the footage sifting through the debris of the destroyed buildings. One Palestinian man can be heard questioning why Israeli forces struck the area, saying everyone who lived there were civilians, not militants.  Inside one of the destroyed homes, blankets, clothes and toys are laid out in front of three children, two boys and one little girl who are looking for their belongings. An ambulance driver for the hospital, Abdallah Hemaid, told CNN that some civilians were scavenging in a field for plants or vegetation they could eat when Israeli artillery fire targeted the area. Hemaid said when the initial attack took place, nearby civilians rushed over to try to help the injured. But then another round of artillery fire killed three people and injured several children, all from the same family, he said. Two ambulances with four paramedics from the Kamal Adwan Hospital headed to the area when a third round of artillery fire erupted, killing one of the paramedics and critically injuring three others, he added. Graphic video obtained by CNN showed the critically injured paramedics arriving at the hospital, blood splattered on their faces and body. Bikawi said after the Israeli military withdrew just after 7 a.m. local time in Jenin on Thursday, the ambulance services reached Qaniri and found eight bullets in his chest and abdomen. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement that it held a “divisional operation to counter terrorism in Jenin,” killing a “wanted person,” arresting two other people and confiscating weapons in the area. The IDF said its forces arrested “20 wanted people” throughout the occupied West Bank on Wednesday, noting that approximately 3,700 others have been arrested since the beginning of the war in Gaza.  Videos obtained by CNN show a heavy military presence in the city, with several military vehicles and armored bulldozers ripping up the streets Wednesday into Thursday morning.  An exchange of gunfire between Israeli forces and Palestinian militants can be heard and what appears to be an explosive device going off near a military bulldozer.  The head of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society services in Jenin, Mahmoud Sa’adi, told CNN the Israeli military destroyed and plowed many streets with bulldozers, “rendering them inoperable.”   3:48 p.m. GMT, April 4, 2024 Israel owes compensation to family of aid worker killed in Gaza, Polish president says From CNN's Louis Mian in London Israel owes compensation to the family of a Polish World Central Kitchen aid worker killed in an IDF strike in Gaza Monday, Poland’s President Andrzej Duda has said. Damian Soból aged 35, from the town of Przemysl in southeastern Poland, was one of seven aid workers killed in the attack. In addition, Duda accused the Israeli ambassador to Poland, Yacov Livne, of making “outrageous” statements, saying that while “authorities in Israel speak about this tragedy in a very subdued and sensitive manner,” their ambassador “is unable to maintain such delicacy and this is unacceptable.” In a post on social media platform X on Tuesday, Livne claimed “anti-Semites will always remain anti-Semites,” after writing that Poland’s “extreme right and left” were accusing Israel of intentional murder. The move boosts Israel’s arsenal despite US concerns over the country’s conduct in the war in Gaza.  The authorization to transfer the 500-pound MK82 bombs and small-diameter bombs occurred before an Israeli strike on a humanitarian convoy in Gaza on Monday that killed seven World Central Kitchen employees, a State Department spokesperson said.  But news of the approval comes as Israel is facing fresh international condemnation over the strike. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged on Tuesday that the aid workers had been “unintentionally” targeted. More context: Last week, the US authorized the transfer of similar weaponry, including nearly 2,000 2,000-pound bombs known as the MK84, people familiar with the matter said. As famine looms and cases of death by starvation emerge, at least three aid providers are suspending operations in Gaza after Israeli airstrikes this week killed seven workers from World Central Kitchen (WCK), an aid group that was central to a much-touted new sea corridor from Cyprus. The killings, which included six foreign victims, caused an international uproar against Israel. WCK and Anera, another aid group, have said they will pause operations in Gaza following the incident. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is reportedly also suspending operations. WCK said its team was traveling in a “deconflicted zone” in two armored cars and one unarmored vehicle, after dropping off more than 100 tons of food supplies at a warehouse in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, when the attack occurred.  This was not a “bad luck situation where, ‘oops,’ we dropped the bomb in the wrong place,” Andres told Reuters.
