Two siblings, a boy and a girl, were injured by an artillery attack reportedly perpetrated by the Syrian regime forces and/or Russian military before midnight on Saturday, December 10, 2023, on the residential neighborhoods of city of Darat Azza, west of Aleppo, Syria.

Iman Abu Talib and Muhammad Abu Talib, a girl and boy, were slightly injured in a house inhabited by Abu Talib. He, a boy with short brown hair and brown eyes, was wearing army green pants and a black sweatshirt when the incident happened. Meanwhile, his sister, a girl taller than him, with short straight brown hair and brown eyes, was wearing a clothing set of a sweatshirt and pants with white, gray, red, and black horizontal stripes. Both received first aid care and looked very scared in the photos posted by the Syrian Network for Human Rights Facebook account.

A video posted showed part of the walls and the ceiling near the stairs of the house sustained damaged and some debris in the house yard. The kids and their relatives were evacuated from the home due to the damage.

The Syrian Civil Defense (also called the “White Helmets”) reported that the family of Abu Talib, the siblings’ father, had been previously displaced from their city of Anadan, north of Aleppo. The SCD posted an emotional tweet about the grievances of the father who has to find another safe place for his family: “Two rackets, a badminton, two small bicycles, and other toys that Abu Talib carries with him are not New Year’s gifts for his children. He carries them with great concern for the new year, searching for a day to live with his family without war or displacement, searching for a place to shelter his family away from the bombing of Russian planes and shells of the forces.”

An image of Abu Talib carrying a chicken in his hands amidst the rubble as well as an image of children’s toys were shared in this tweet.

The White Helmets attended the scene and classes were suspended due to the bombing according to the Halab Today Online Facebook account’s report.

While most of the sources indicated that the perpetrators of the attack were Syrian regime forces, some sources held the Russian military responsible.

The incident occured around midnight.
